OTHER GAMES OF NOTE:
3-3A Andrews (3-5/2-1) beat Midland Greenwood (5-3/2-1) 35-19... Andrews comes up as playoff favorites after taking out a Greenwood squad that got some love (two votes) in last week's top 25 poll.

7-3A Glen Rose (6-2/3-0) beat Gatesville (6-2/2-1) 42-7... Solely in first, Glen Rose now owns victories over second-place (tied) Gatesville and second-place (tied) #25 West; A win next week against #21 China Spring sows up a share of the district title.

8-3A Liberty Hill (4-4/3-2) beat Wimberley (4-4/3-1) 27-25... Just when we thought the Panthers were down for the count, they jump up and beat the district leaders; Still anyone's district, as LH follows this week's bye with a game against Llano; The game that will determine most of the district is Canyon Lake/Burnet in two weeks.

11-3A Dallas Madison (6-2/4-0) beat Fort Worth Castleberry (3-5/2-2) 39-13... Barring a miracle, Madison has all but sewn up a spot in the playoffs with the win over Castleberry; Lake Worth (5-3/4-0) up next in a battle of district leaders followed by 2-7 FW Diamond Hill-Jarvis.

13-3A Farmersville (5-3/3-0) beat Nevada Community (4-4/2-1) 35-26... The Farmers take sole possession of first; Farmersville currently owns wins over two (NC and Lucus Lovejoy) of the three teams tied for second in 13-3A.

16-3A Pittsburg (7-1/3-0) beat Texarkana Liberty-Eylau (4-4/2-1) 35-12... The Pirates take sole possession of first with a huge statement game over the Leopards; A three-way tie between L-E, Pleasant Grove, and New Boston remains in District 16; Pittsburg still has Mount Vernon and Pleasant Grove on tap, but have taken the title of district favorites.

18-3A Center (6-2/2-1) beat Rusk (4-4/1-2) 14-10... While the two top teams in 18-3A (Jasper and Carthage) took center stage Friday, the battle for the rest of the district was won by Center; With #14 Jasper and 1-7 Huntington remaining, Center only needs to win one of those games OR get both a Diboll and Rusk loss (Diboll plays Carthage and Rusk plays Jasper this week).

19-3A Waco LaVega (5-3/2-1) beat Robinson (2-6/1-2) 52-46... What a quagmire of a district; LaVega sorted it out a little with their nailbiter over underrated Robinson (don't pay attention to Robinson's record), but now there are four teams tied at 2-1 and Robinson, standing in fifth at 1-2, still gets a crack at two of those teams; Lorena's upset of Mexia puts the Leopards in the thick of things; Groesbeck (1-7/0-3) appears to be the only team that truly has a place in the pecking order.

20-3A Palestine (5-3/3-0) beat Brownsboro (6-1/2-1) 42-26... Brownsboro's first loss of the year; Palestine re-emerges as a Region III favorite.

22-3A Coldspring-Oakhurst (7-1/4-0) beat Splendora (2-7/1-4) 55-21... Sets Coldspring up for a huge showdown against #16 Cleveland next week for the district title; Although Cleveland is the more high-profile team, the two teams are very evenly-matched.

25-3A Bellville (5-3/2-2) beat Columbus (4-4/0-3) 34-3... Bellville needed this win (don't underestimate Columbus) to stay alive in the deepest and toughest district in the state; Ranked in the top ten at the start of the season, the Brahmas' three losses have all come to highly-ranked Navasota, LaGrange, and Giddings; Bellville has Smithville next week followed by district-leader Sealy, so a playoff berth isn't out of the question.

26-3A Sweeny (6-2/3-0) beat Needville (6-2/2-1) 28-6... Sweeny takes its spot as the top dog in District 26 with a win over the Blue Jays. The Dogs look like a team that is coming together at the right time of the year.

27-3A San Antonio Sam Houston (6-2/2-1) beat LaVernia (5-3/2-1) 21-13... LaVernia's only two losses leading up to their loss Friday had been to top-five 3A's Giddings and Cuero; Sam Houston owes its district loss to Luling, who closes out their season against LaVernia in two weeks.

31-3A Mathis (5-3/4-1) beat Robstown (4-4/3-2) 42-33... Mathis eliminates Robstown from the logjam at second place and clears what appeared to be the toughest obstacle in the Pirates' path to the playoffs; Mathis closes out the season against Orange Grove and Falfurrias.

32-3A Zapata (4-4/4-1) beat Port Isabel (2-6/1-4) 35-28... The Hawks take firm control of their playoff destiny with a win over the Tarpons; Zapata would have to lose their final two games, against Progreso (2-6/0-5) and Hidalgo (3-5/2-3) by large margins to fall out of the playoffs

Left out 29-3A.
Devine (5-3, 2-2) beat Hondo (6-2, 4-1) 28-26 in a must-win game to stay alive. Pearsall (7-1, 3-1) beat Lytle (2-6, 0-4) 52-6 to keep district title hopes alive. Bandera (6-2, 3-1) was idle and takes on Hondo in a big game next week. Carrizo Springs (3-5, 2-2) beat Crystal City (2-7, 1-4) in the Turkey Creek Shootout.

I intentionally left out some districts because there just wasn't much to say, but meant to put the Devine/Hondo game as it was the most important to the overall district race and to Region IV as a whole.

The Pearsall game was expected, and it doesn't seem like CS isn't truly in the race just yet as both of their wins have come over the two cellar dwellers.
