Lost to an inspired Navasota team after losing to Caldwell on Fair weekend. Rockdale always plays terrible on the weekend of the Rockdale Fair.

Looks like Caldwell may get that elusive district championship. Way to go Dave Campbell, they made the playoffs again despite your predictions, and this time, they will (in all likelyhood) WIN DISTRICT!

Feels good, doesn't it Hornet fans? I bet nunya/wookinpaub/cntdwn is jumping up and down, and trying to procure a new screenname as we speak.:D

Hey only the Hornets can get away with that on their own field, lol.

guess they found it a few times, hence a 4-0 district record.

Thanks all. :inlove:

We are so proud of our Hornets. Defense, Special Teams, Offense...it's gelled and is working well for us. Hats off to the coaching staff for molding and coaching a team...not a program made to support and surround one or two "super stars".

We pump up each week for the game but this week we had exta fodder because of Coach Miller's comments in the paper and on the radio. The comments that we make them yawn and have an archaic program, etc were great for us. We may write a thank you letter to him. ;)

We'll take our "archaic" and apparently boring program. Sometimes success isn't flashy and comes in subtle aka boring ways.

Woolverton, Caldwell roll past Rockdale
ROCKDALE -- A first-half slugging match turned into a game of keep-away, as Kysan Woolverton scored five touchdowns to help the Caldwell Hornets remained unbeaten in District 24-3A with a 35-14 victory over the Rockdale Tigers on Friday.

The Hornets stuck to their recipe for success with a stingy defense and steady dose of senior fullback Woolverton on offense in the second half, turning a 14-14 game into a one-sided affair. Not only did Woolverton score three times in the second half, but his punishing style combined with a ball-hawking defense limited Rockdale's offense to just eight plays in the third quarter and seven in the fourth.

The first half had all the makings of the tight game many expected, with Rockdale countering Woolverton's first two touchdowns with a Joe Sanders touchdown run and a 15-yard scoring pass from Sanders to Tyler Wright.

That changed right away in the third quarter.

The Hornets took the second half kickoff and methodically drove 68 yards on 13 plays, eating up almost 6 minutes of the quarter. Caldwell overcame a pair of false starts on the drive, converted on two third downs and one fourth down as it marched down the field. Quarterback DJ Cumby hit a pair of big passes, but the bulk of the drive was hard-pounding run plays.

"We just stick to what we do best," Woolverton said. "We try to come out and play power football. The line was making good holes and the defense stopped them from scoring in the second half."

The Caldwell defense kept the Rockdale offense from doing much of anything for much of the second half. The Tigers were forced to go three-and-out on their first two possessions of the half before Caldwell put together another long scoring drive, this time a 4-minute march spanning the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth. That drive was capped by a 2-yard run by Woolverton on fourth-and-goal.

"All the credit goes to our offensive line," Caldwell head coach Dale Williams said. "They come off the line and they get no glory and nothing in the paper, but they come out every game and they're down there butting heads."

The Caldwell kickoff team kicked a high, short kick that was misplayed by Rockdale and recovered by the Hornets -- the second time that strategy worked on the night. For much of the game, if Caldwell's special teams units weren't getting the ball back, they were pinning Rockdale deep in its own territory.

"There's three phases of the game," Williams said. "You have to do well in all three, not just one or two. There wasn't really anything special in our game plan [for special teams], we just went out and did what we normally do."

That turnover set up Woolverton's fifth touchdown of the night, another 1-yard dive with 4 1/2 minutes to go.

Rockdale responded with its best offensive effort of the second half in its only fourth-quarter possession. Sanders hit Brandon Gibbs on a 48-yard pass to put the Tigers in striking distance of the end zone, but an interception by Bryston Burns dashed any hopes of a miracle comeback.

The victory puts Caldwell in control of its own destiny in the district championship race, but Williams isn't looking that far ahead just yet.

"Any time you win a district game, that's great," Williams said. "But we've got Taylor coming to Caldwell next and that's a big game, too. This is a victory, but it's really about having another game to get ready for and that's Taylor next week."

Before you blast someone, learn to read. The comments about the offense did not come from the coach, they were straight from the writer. Some people on here have nothing better to do with their lives than to trash other people. Grow up.

this is, historically, a common misconception. I coached there 3 years and never lost on fair weekend and the ten years Creghan was there they only lost about 3 games on fair weekend.

Wasn't blasting and can read quite well. The article in the paper and comments on the radio did rally our fans and players. It was posted all over facebook and available online. If you check, you will see that I'm pretty supportive of the Rockdale Tigers.

Truce.
