District 25
La Grange (2-0) (7-0)
Sealy (2-0) (7-0)
Smithville (1-1) (5-2)
Giddings (1-1) (6-1)
Columbus (0-2) (4-3)
Bellville (0-2) (4-3)

This week is another interesting one in D25 with the classic match up of two long time rivals La Grange and Giddings plus key games for Sealy/Smithville and Bellville /Columbus.

La Grange v Giddings
The Leps host the Buffs and seek revenge for 6 years of Giddings dominance in one of the oldest rivalries in Texas. Giddings is in a must win situation in the race for the district championship having already lost to Sealy. The Leps come off two narrow wins in Bellville and Smithville and are starting to look like the cardiac kids of D25. Will La Grange step up and stop the Buffalo express? We think this is the year of the Leopard and LG finally gets a win at home from the Buffs. LG by 2 tds.

Sealy v Smithville
Who are the real Tigers in this match up? Smithville hung 42 points on La Grange last week and still lost the game. Sealy has a powerful offense and a good defense and home field advantage. Everything favors the Sealy Tigers...except the psychology. Sealy gets a lesson in Football Psych 101 and gets ambushed by the upstart Tigers. Smithville by 3

Bellville v Columbus
The Brahmas got off to a disappointing start in D25 losing to La Grange by 3 and falling short to Giddings last week. With much gnashing of teeth and lamentations by the Bull fans now behind them, the Brahmas will come roaring back to punish the 0-2 Cardinals in the Pasture of Pain. Bellville by 3 tds.

District 26
Needville (2-0) (6-1)
Sweeny (2-0) (5-2)
Brookshire Royal (2-0) (3-4)
Stafford (0-2) (5-2)
West Columbia (0-2) (1-5)
Wharton (0-2) (0-6)

Offense
Brookshire Royal 345.3
Sweeny 304.6
Needville 288.0
West Columbia 282.6
Wharton 256.4
Stafford 239.7

Defense
Needville 219.6
Sweeny 233.6
Stafford 253.0
Brookeshire Royal 274.0
Wharton 275.6
West Columbia 291.9

Needville @ Sweeny
This is the marquee match up for District 26. Both teams are coming off of close wins and will be looking to clinch a playoff spot with a win. Needville will try and control the ball and limit Sweeny's opportunities. Sweeny will try to score every chance they can knowing they will get few possessions.
Prediction: Needville by 3

West Columbia @ Brookshire Royal
The winner of this game will control their destiny. West Columbia will need to find the intensity that they showed against Sweeny. Brookshire will need their defense to step up for them this week.
Prediction: Brookshire Royal by 7

Stafford @ Wharton
After starting the season 4-0 Stafford has hit a brick wall with an 0-2 district mark. They will look to get their first district win Friday vs. (0-6) Wharton. The tigers, despite their record are very talented, and will win this game easily.
Prediction: Wharton by 14

District 27
La Vernia (2-0) (5-2)
Luling (2-0) (3-4)
Somerset (1-1) (5-2)
Sam Houston (1-1) (5-2)
Poteet (0-2) (3-3)
Marion (0-2) (1-6)

La Vernia @ SA Sam Houston
Sam Houston needs a victory over La Vernia or Somerset if the Hurricanes hope to qualify for post season play. Unfortunately for SH, La Vernia is not the type of team to come into a district game unprepared and the Bears roll.
LV by 16

Luling @ Marion
Luling is on a two game winning streak and have won 3 of their last 4 games after a winless campaign in ’08. Marion is at the opposite end of the spectrum and the eagles make it 3 in a row with ease.
Luling by 23

Somerset @ Poteet
The Somerset Bulldogs plan to be the Division 1 representative for D27 and Poteet isn’t going to alter that arraignment.
Somerset by 17

District 28
Cuero (2-0) (7-0)
Edna (2-0) (5-1)
Palacios (1-1) (3-4)
Yoakum (0-2) (2-5)
Gonzales (0-2) (1-6)
Goliad (1-1) (1-6)

Edna @ Palacios
Edna earned a tough win over Yoakum last week and may be overlooking the Sharks. Palacios actually led Cuero at the end of the first quarter before the Gobblers put the hammer down. The Sharks are a scrappy bunch and don’t be surprised if they scare the Cowboys for a while before Edna’s talent and size take the game over.
Edna by 18

Cuero @ Goliad
The Cuero Gobblers come into Goliad a little out of sorts, for them, as they are used to putting away D28 games by the end of the first quarter. Their last two they’ve trailed, only to come back late vs. Yoakum, and early to crush Palacios. Goliad seems to be improving and is remaining competitive, but this week we think the Gobblers have the pedal to the metal from the opening kick.
Cuero by 35

Gonzales @ Yoakum
We don’t know if there is a better 2-5 team in the state than the Yoakum Bulldogs. The Bulldogs just haven’t put together 4 quarters yet, but when they do, they will do some damage. We look for them to run the table and represent D28 in the playoffs. Gonzales is not playing well and we think the bulldogs size and physical play take the fight out of the Apaches early on.
Yoakum by 28

District 29
Hondo (4-0) (6-1)
Pearsall (2-1) (6-1)
Bandera (3-1) (6-2)
Devine (1-2) (4-3)
Crystal City (1-3) (2-6)
Carrizo Springs (1-2) (2-5)
Lytle (0-3) (2-4)

Hondo @ Devine
GOTW in D29. The Hondo Owls are the real deal. The Devine Warhorses need to win or they are out of the playoff picture. It’ll be close, and it’ll be a battle, but we believe Hondo prevails.
Hondo by 7

Carrizo Springs @ Crystal City
Home team squeaks out a win.
CC by 2

Lytle @ Pearsall
Pearsall keeps it’s playoff hopes alive with an easy victory at home vs. the Pirates.
Pearsall by 28

District 31
Sinton (4-0) (7-0)
Robstown (3-1 (4-3)
Ingleside (3-1) (6-1)
Mathis (3-1) (343)
Orange Grove (1-3) (2-5)
West Oso (1-3) (2-5)
Aransas Pass (1-3) (1-6)
Falfurrias (0-3) (0-6)

Robstown (4-3; 3-1) @ Mathis (4-3; 3-1) - Playoff spots are on the line in this game. The ground will be rumbling in Mathis Friday night. The Pirates are coming off a big win against West Oso and the Cottonpickers are coming off a heartbreaking double OT loss to Sinton. Both teams have had trouble holding onto the ball. Robstown can score quickly with their speed and effective passing. Mathis will need to do what they do best, eat clock. We know it's tough to win in Mathis, but we like Robstown by 10.

Falfurrias (0-7; 0-4) @ Sinton (7-0; 4-0) - Sinton's homecoming, Falfurrias has not won a game. We can see this being a "trap" game for the Pirates with all the homecoming activities. Falfurrias keeps it close in the first half and the Pirates finish strong in the 2nd half. Pirates by 21+

Ingleside (6-1; 3-1) @ Aransas Pass (1-6; 1-3) - Old rivalry. You can usually throw the records out in this game. These two neighbors hate each other, but Ingleside is more seasoned than the Panthers. This won't be pretty! Ingleside by 28

West Oso (2-5; 1-3) @ Orange Grove (2-5; 1-3) - It's tough to win in Orange Grove. Both these teams are on the outside looking in. The Bears probably have more talent than the Bulldogs, but we'll take Orange Grove at home. Orange Grove by 3

District 32
Lyford (4-0) (7-0)
Rio Hondo (3-1) (3-4)
Zapata (3-1) (3-4)
Raymondville (2-2) (4-2)
Hidalgo (2-2) (3-4)
La Feria (1-3) (2-5)
Port Isabel (1-3) (2-5)
Progresso (0-4) (2-5)

Hidalgo @ Lyford
Hidalgo needs to win to keep control of their destiny. Lyford sure looks like they are the real deal and we think they stay undefeated.
Lyford by 5

Zapata @ Port Isabel
The tarpons have to win to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot. They had a big win last week and maybe it’ll carry over to this week. We think it does and PI wins easily.
PI by 17

Rio Hondo @ Raymondville
Never a dull Friday night in D32 as games with serious playoff implication abound. Rio Hondo looked horrible heading into district play, but now they’re 3-1 in district play and are playing well. Raymonville simply has to have this game. 3 losses at this juncture would be devsatating to the Bearkats playoff hopes as they end the season with tough matchups @ Port Isabel and Lyford. We like Raymondville at home.
Raymonville by 8

La Feria @ Progresso
Technically, both are still alive, practically, they are playing for pride.

Maybe LG's defense is not that good? I know LG held Bellville to 7 points, but all we've been reading about is how Bellville's offense is anemic.

Sealy's defense has only given up 24 points in district and 18 of those were to Giddings.

I know we don't like to put a lot of stock into common opponents, but both have played Columbus. Smithville gave up 28 points to Columbus while Sealy only gave up 6.

Sealy's defense will be the difference in this game. Sealy wins.

LG defense is ranked #23 by Huddle Up giving up 102 points(42 to Smithville)

Sealy is not ranked in the top 30 with 115 points given up

I don't see a basis for so much confidence in Sealy's defense holding down the Smithville scoring machine. La Grange only had given up 60 points or 10 points per game going into Smithville.

Only 13 point difference in points allowed. Yalls game will be a shoot out, but I'll still take my chances with Sealy against Smithville and if they hold them to less than 42 points wonder what you'll think then?

dang - those D25 teams can't afford to have 1 bad game. Can't wait to see how it ends up.

All the talk about Sealy's defense is there because they haven't played the Goliad's and Gonzales' of the world
