BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The Southeastern Conference has suspended officials from last weekend's Arkansas-Florida game after the crew was involved in its second controversial call of the year.

Referee Marc Curles' crew called a personal foul on Arkansas defensive lineman Malcolm Sheppard in the fourth quarter as the Gators were rallying for a 23-20 victory. The league said there was no video evidence to support the call.

The same group of officials called the LSU-Georgia game earlier this month, which included a late unsportsmanlike conduct penalty the league said shouldn't have been called.

The SEC says the crew will be removed from its scheduled assignment this weekend and will not be assigned to officiate as a crew until Nov. 14.

The league said the crew's bowl assignments could also be impacted.

ABOUT TIME. You would never see that in the Big 12 (unless it happen to Oklahoma or Texas)

the officials are wattering down the game too much. You seriously cant even touch the College or some NFL QB's anymore. You lay a hand on them and it will be 15. Sometimes you have to let the players play the game.

the hits on the wide outs are getting bad too... if u hit the reciever "hard" and he doesn't have the ball, it seems like its 15 every time...

I am sure Arkansas really appreciates that

Guess SEC did acknowledge it though  better than nothing

who was it that said, "you could have a holding penalty on every play." get over it. Tech sucks.

now, for the REAL bad calls... the damage has been done. suspending the ref's will not take away the loss for Arkansas or the win for Florida. it's good that they won't be making any MORE bad calls, for a few weeks anyway. this officiating team made it obvious they were more concerned about getting face time on the camera than ensuring a fair, clean game.

That's funny you post that after last years game. There was a picture going around last year that showed a tech offensive lineman practically tackling Orakpo. They could have flagged tech for offensive holding on every play last year.

Too bad the horses already left the barn before the SEC closed the door. They may have "punished" the officials but the conference got what they want -- progress toward a #1 vs. #2 matchup in the conference championship and a guaranteed berth in the game for the mythical national championship.

They say they're sorry, but quietly I suspect they like what happened.

odds are both of those teams will lose one.....the sec is brutal.......the big 12 is texas and everyone else.......honestly you look at florida and bama's schedule and you see games they could lose.........texas has a game v. ou every year and then no challenge.

If SEC officials keep handing games to one side, it's not a given.

I feel like the SEC wants a #1 vs. #2 matchup in the conference championship and if it takes corrupt officiating to get it, so be it. This suspension, IMO, was what they had to do to sustain "plausible deniability" of that fact.

Guess that's why Texas won every game they played in the Big 12 last year, NOT!

There are more conspiracy theorists on this thread than at an X-Files convention, Bible Code book club, and an NBA game combined.
