I would like to see where the bulk of all teams in the state championship game come from in all classifications for football in Tx.

I just start to rattle off winners or runner ups that I know that are in the general area of LH and it seems that most teams are along or near the I-35 corridor. I'm probably wrong, but in recent years, maybe since 2000? It'd be interesting to see.

I can name a few,
Didn't Bandera win in 2002?
Then of course there was Burnets back to back runner ups in 02 and 03.
Wimberley in 05.
LH in 06 and 07.
Lake Travis in 07 and 08.
La Vega was a runner up in 08.
China Spring was a runner up in 07.

So maybe it isn't West Texas or East Texas or even North or South Texas..maybe it's just the central part of the state?

Those are the only one's I can think of, mainly because I'm in class and kinda distracted. Y'all help me out.

There's Hutto in 05.
And then Waco Robinson in 06.
Both were runner ups.

These are mainly just 3A's too.

I'm considering you inside the I-35 corridor if you're like an hour East or West. So would La Grange be too far East or would you still consider it Central to I-35? It's like an hour off I-35 I think?

We aren't off I-35 and we were runner up in '01

Everman is not off I-35 and they were state champs in '01 & '02

Gilmer & Wylie are not off of I-35 and they won in '04

Cuero & Jasper are not off I-35 and they were runner ups in '04

Most state champions are going to come from the population centers, I-35 East. :D

Very true. I was just curious to see if I'm right or wrong? Others memories are better than mine, and go back further for obvious reasons haha

I saw somethign about this not too long ago and it seemed that most of the state champions (all classes) came from east of I-35.

Longview and Sulpur Springs were both in finals last year from same district. Texarkana,Marshall, Atlanta, LE, Gilmer, D'field, Carthage, Tatum, Elysian Fields, Pewitt all within an hour (give or take 30 min) East Texas doesn't need a corridor.

That was a short list by the way....:D

Oh just saw the above list forgot all about JT and Lee in Tyler
Looks like on average 3 of these teams have been in the finals every year for the past 5 years. I did not see a year where at least 1 wasn't in going back to 99.

kinda scary if you think about it this way. In 2002, one district was

Bandera
LH
Wimberley
and im not sure, but i think burnet.

In 6 years, that district has 4 state titles and has appeared in 6 championships. This district was split up, thank god.

Add Alto, Cayuga, Big Sandy, Tenaha, Troup, and Kilgore. Some even consider Commerce, Corsicana, Garrison, and Groveton to be East Texas teams.

Here's the all-time list of Region Champs, State Finalists and State Champs for 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A

As you can see from where the "Blue" predominates in the tables below... Region I teams have dominated 5A as of late, Regions II and III have dominated 4A, 3A and 2A as of late and Region IV has been the most successful in 1A over the past 20 years

I need to update 1A and 2A with the 2008 results... I apologize for that omission

State Champs are listed in BLUE
State Runners-up are listed in RED
