Tarpons finally get their first district win! :D

Port Isabel 61- La Feria 14

Crazy thing about the whole thing, since everybody is beating every body in 32-3a *except Lyford, Tarpons still have an outside chance of getting in the playoffs as the 3rd place team. Tarpons have Zapata, Raymondville and Progreso left.

It was a great feeling for a group of hard working kids and coaches who have endured what seems like an endless string of bad luck this season. Keep up the good work, Tarpons!!!

Port Isabel running back Joe Vega eludes La Feria defenders during Friday night’s game at Lions Stadium.

LA FERIA — Now that’s the Port Isabel Tarpons team people were expecting to see.
Especially themselves.
Big Blue played its best game of the season and was rewarded with a huge 61-14 win over La Feria on Friday night.
PI (2-5 overall, 1-3 district) got big scoring nights from Kyle DeMoss (three rushing TDs) and C.J. Barrera (3 TDs) to stop a four-game losing skid.
“This is a huge win for the kids,” PI head coach Monty Stumbaugh said. “When we go out and execute the way we’re supposed to, we’re a pretty good football team.”
The Tarpons also got a big night from Joe Vega, who also scored a TD on the ground. Matthew Garza ran back a punt for a score and Hector Guevara scooped up a fumble and ran that in for win over the Weslaco Panthers on Friday night at Bobby Lackey Stadium.
The Cowboys (1-6 overall, 1-3 district) trailed 28-12 in the fourth quarter before they scored three touchdowns in the final 4:22.
Mike Resendez scored on a 6-yard run, capping a 14-play drive with 4:22 to pull the Cowboys to within 28-20. Porter’s Luis Alvarez recovered a Panther fumble on Weslaco’s 9-yard line on the next drive. Bullock scored on the next play and tallied a two-point run to tie the score at 28.
The Cowboys held Weslaco (1-6, 1-3) to a three-and-out on the next series and that set up the game-winning drive at the Panthers’ 48. Bullock hit Garza on the drive’s sixth play.
Bullock accounted for four touchdowns — two rushing and two passing.
PACE 42, LOPEZ 14: At Brownsville, the Pace Vikings can start focusing on their much-anticipated showdown against Los Fresnos.
Pace (6-1 overall, 4-0 district) defeated winless Lopez (0-7, 0-4) 42-14 on Friday night at Sams Memorial Stadium.
Pace coach Rene Medrano didn’t want his players looking past the another TD.
“Finally, we got a few breaks,” Stumbaugh said. “Hopefully this will help us get the momentum going. “
La Feria falls to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in district play.
