I know the game is not until next week. But, it is sure to be one of the best games of the year. What do you think? I got Jasper by 6.

big game for both..........district championship on the line. but, i think both teams have much higher aspirations. should be a great game and i think we will find out alot about both. my thoughts on game.............i think Jasper will need a couple of good breaks to pull this one out but than could happen. sometimes good teams make their own luck. Carthage 31 Jasper 27..............go Jasper stop that long winning streak!!!!!

Other that Jasper's opening loss in which the Dawgs turned the ball over to Gilmer 3 or 4 times inside their own 35, I believe Jasper is in the + column on take-aways. In addition, Jasper has something this year that they have only had once or twice in my memory over the last 35 years...a Field Goal kicker.....that's right Field Goals..PATS...Jasper....they don't go together in same sentence do they? Against good competition (Kirbyville, WOS, Silsbee) Jasper has reduced turn-overs, increased take-aways, and the kicking game has played a very important roll. This TEAM continues to improve and mature each week. Close games and coming from behind in the 4th Qtr does not seem to bother this bunch of kids.......THEY BELIEVE THEY CAN..... If the game is a blow-out, then one or the other made two many mistakes. If it's a close game, I will take the Jasper version of the Bulldawgs over the Carthage version.

I'm not going to sit at home an listen to this one, we'll be at the Dawg House on Friday for fire works!!

This is one of the bigger match ups in week 8. Jasper has a real opportunity to make a statement and I think they will do just that. Jasper by a td or so.

And one player has at least 8 of those interceptions! (Don't know how he did last night.)

Better keep the ball out of his territory. What is his territory? All over the field! ;)

Jasper 12 52.17%

At 4:53 on 10-17-09 Jasper is a slight favorite?

Must be a lot of homer votes here!

On paper, Jasper has little chance playing the defending state champions. But go little Dogs!

Go Jasper! You guys sure have your hands full with Carthage, but they are beatable. A few teams have come close this year, but have either failed to get the stop or awakened the Dawg defense at the last minute somehow. I think Jasper has the best shot and scenario to upset the defending champs of any team this year. But it will take great execution and discipline.

Jasper 33, Carthage 31

At 10:40 P.M. on 10-17-09 Jasper has a slightly larger favor!:)

On the field, Jasper has a very good chance of beating the former state champs. GO DAWGS!

Jasper has home field.
Carthage has a few key players with injury.
Carthage has played a much tougher schedule.
Carthage has a better coach.
Carthage has the experience in big games.
Carthage has the big O & D linemen.

I guess everyone on here likes the underdog but Carthage will win.

Carthage 38 - Jasper 14

"Carthage has played a much tougher schedule."

No way!

OldBison75
10-18-2009, 11:42 AM
Jasper has the athletes to make a big run in this game and can match up with the boys from Carthage on both sides of the ball. I think the speed of Jasper will be the difference. That and those T-Rex armed lineman that can outquick and outmuscle a bunch of people. If the Jasper dogs avoid the turnover bug, they win by 7.

Oh, by the way, the comment about Carthage having better coaching may be a little premature. Remember, this is a first year head coach for Jasper and the only time they have had difficulty is the first game against Gilmer. They have learned a new system and new coach very fast and this looks like the great teams that Jasper has had in the past. This coach knows how to win and how to motivate--Jasper coaching is better than you believe.

There is NO WAY Carthage has a tougher schedule. Jasper's first three games were against high state ranked opponents!

Gilmer #1 - 3A
Kirbyville #2 - 2A
WO-S #3 - 3A

AND they won 2 of those!!!

oldtownag
10-18-2009, 03:42 PM
Gilmer is good and they rolled Jasper.

Kirbyville 2A vs. Henderson, Kilgore, & Jacksonville from 4A - No comparison

WO-S is having a bit of trouble this year last time I checked vs. Atlanta is a wash.

The last Massie ratings had Carthage with the #5 schedule and Jasper with #3. I submit that the reason Jasper is ranked higher is because Carthage is on the schedule!

This will be a war and both teams should be better prepaired for the playoffs win or lose!

j_dog
10-18-2009, 09:06 PM
War yes. Even worse, it will be anothe slobberknocker! Jasper is good at those. :) ;)

Yeah jdog, I have heard that Jasper has better size this year but has not lost quickness. And it just amazes me that those short armed lineman can keep such good contact with the defensive lineman of the opposition. You know that the trex had super strength in the lower body and I guess that is the key.

the real, genuine advantage is this:

it is impossible for them to hold! avoids a lot of penalties.

defensively, I suspect this version might be a tad quicker than the slow ones you saw.

No. Caldwell never gets picked for GOTW because they never get the respect they deserve, JUST ASK THEM.

I told you when they BEAT Navasota, they'd get a few lousy consolation AP points and end up No. 22 or something. But I was too harsh. They ranked us 19th.

MY BAD!

OldBison75

Notice that the polls are even, about the way I see the game. If Jasper can avoid turnovers, they can win this game. Don't be surprised if the final score dosen't even add up to 24. Jasper wins by three, maybe 13-10.

Jasper 25 51.02%

I am just amazed still at this poll. Carthage is the second ranked team in the state for gosh sakes. Carthage blew Jasper right off the field last year.

Jasper 10
Carthage 7

Carthage lost their QB from last year, 3rd string RB tottin the mail, average recievers at best, out of shotgun and under center. Jasper running game eats clock..

And everyone knows Jasper is a tough place to play...

This game was won on the line. Carthage blocked Jasper well and Jasper couldn't move Cathage's defensive line at all. It was just a matter of time before Carthage went ahead. They are most definitely the better team.

Good luck the rest of the way.:)
