For those that don't know this is the name of the Rivalry between Sweeny - West Columbia. The series dates back to the 1950's. The game was cancelled for two years in the 1950's because the fans started fighting on the field during the game. This year the game will be played at West Columbia. So LET'S GET IT ON!

This game depends on which Sweeny team shows up. If the Sweeny team that played Stafford shows in West Columbia I think Sweeny will win. Turnovers will be key in this game.

I'll go with an honest prediction of 34-21. I hope the Necks prove me wrong.

Right now, it looks like Sweeny and Needville are the teams to beat in 26.

That very well could be the score. I think West Columbia will keep it close. Conditioning will be a huge factor for both teams.

The starters are pretty good, but the yound guys make some bonehead moves every now and then. Couple times we had blown coverage against Needville and Berry made us pay with 2 passes for 88 yds and 2 tds.

Lemon has a good arm and you just know Woodard is going to be doing everything he can to bust em lose on us.

I think it depends on how good of receivers you guys have.

If they get open and force our defense to back off a bit to protect against the pass, Woodard is gonna tear us a new one on the ground.

If we can keep the receivers in check and play tight to the line, we should be able to handle Woodard.

Limit the big plays, smart football, and finishing drives is what it will take for the Necks to pull it out.

Good luck Roughnecks!

Who won the Tug of War between the cities of Sweeny and West Columbia earlier this year?

SHSBulldog00

We have a pretty good Receiving Corp. Lemon spreads it around pretty well. Against Stafford he was 1 of 5 for a 23 yd TD. It poured the whole game. That's why we ran for 302 yds on Stafford.

We usually don't pass much, but when we got behind about 3 scores we started passing. Granted we didn't complete very many.... but I liked the fact we were atleast trying. I think if it were dry, we would've completed some of those.

I like when our QB has the opportunity to run of throw out of the shotgun. Once he gets past the line, he can make some things happen.

I'm not so fond of the TB draws and such out of the shotgun. They never seem to go anywhere.

Oh well. I think we can sit back and complete those 6-7 yd routes all game. Will we do it? Doubtful. But, I liked the fact that we atleast aired it out a bit and let our QB do some things last game.

Hopefully he can make some plays this week against Sweeny.

I'm not asking for long passes because we don't really have the receivers for that or the QB, but just enough to keep em off guard. If we run on 1st and 2nd down and go nowhere, then run a bootleg and pass to the flat on 3rd down every drive... we're not going to beat anyone. :(

A Sweeny win puts them in the drivers seat as far a playoff spot. A Sweeny loss means they have to win two out of last three. A West Columbia win puts them in place for a playoff spot with Brookshire being their only tough game remaining. A Neck loss and W.C. will have to win out and hope they can grab a playoff spot.

I don't know anything about either team but I did live in Brazoria and then West Columbia for 3 years. So I am familiar with this rivalry. Back when I lived there Columbia was a 4A school and was hit and miss making the playoffs. Sweeny was 3A and pretty consistant. It seemed like Columbia measured there season by that game. But it was always fun to watch.
My gut says Sweeny to win but my heart wants Columbia to pull off the upset.

I don't know who the secondary coach is but I was in the bleachers at practice yesterday and heard him yelling but could not understand him. But he was talking fairly clear for having 2/3 of a Big Mac in his mouth. He even had the fries in his pocket and would sneak one every now and then.

WC will win the game by atleast a td, practice this week always seem to run more intense because of the rivalry and the intensity will carry over onto the field. as long as turnovers are kept to a minimum i dont see a way for them to lose this game. I'd like to see him as the QB in the next year or so if he continues to develop. Somebody go to the freshman game and tell me if you see him playing and what he looks like as far as a future QB?

Lil Flannel has talent but he is still unproven.

We'd like to think he'll be as good as his brother, but not as of right now. He makes some nice plays, but doesn't seem to have the vision or burst his older brother had. He's only a soph. He will def get better tho.

And Columbia only has 200 something yards passing because they only run about 6-7 pass plays a game.

Lewis isn't that accurate and our WR's are sort of a weak spot on this team.

Well bad side didn't sit too well.

Sweeny will overcome all obstacles W.C. throws at them.

When a coach on the team says they suck... well... hard to argue. Although it may have been in jest, I don't think I cans tand another loss. WC may very well win, but if I see them not even be competitive again, I might just puke.

Cant ever forget that one, it was played the week after the 9-11 attacks. I'll never forget how both teams lined up down the middle of the field for the Anthem. That was the only time I remember ever crying at a football game...

I think they call that home field advantage.
i just drove by and the custodial staff for CBISD is busy setting up metal chairs on the little league field for all the sWeenie fans and reserving the visitor side for the student section.

The district doesn't have the money. They would have to pass a bond election. It has been talked about for years but no action. I would love to see it!
