Gilmer QB Darian "Stump" Godfrey's career stats are soon to be among the best in Texas high school football history. The senior QB started as a freshman in 2006 at safety and backed-up Gilmer QB G.J. Kinne. He has been the Buckeyes starting QB since his sophomore year in 2007 when he led Gilmer to the Class 3A Div. I state championship game.

*Gilmer is 32-3 with Stump Godfrey as starting quarterback

*Gilmer's Stump Godfrey’s 94 career touchdown passes ranks as 4th best all time in Class 3A and is tied for 10th best in all classifications with Chavis McCollister of Tenaha and Matthew Stafford of Highland Park. He needs 2 touchdown passes to tie Tyrik Rollison of Sulphur Springs for 9th place (source: Joe Lee Smith)

*Gilmer's Stump Godfrey’s 7,470 career passing yards ranks as 8th best all time in Class 3A. He needs 409 passing yards to pass Derek Thompson of Glen Rose for 7th place (source: Joe Lee Smith)

*Gilmer quarterback Stump Godfrey needs 6 touchdown passes to give him 100 for his career. Only 8 Texas quarterbacks have ever thrown for 100 touchdowns in their career. (Graham Harrell, 167; Garrett Gilbert, 137; G.J. Kinne, 132; Colt McCoy, 116; Drew Tate, 114; Chandler Dane, 104; Riley Dodge, 102; Stephen McGee, 101) (source: Joe Lee Smith)

Okay, now I see what you're talking about. I obviously did not see that thread. I just wanted to get the word out about Stump since it doesn't seem like most of the state knows about his impressive numbers.

By the way lostaussie, where do you think Smoaky got those stats???

Way ahead of you. I have already done a projection based on this season's averages.

Now don't go all crazy on me all of you Gilmer haters... I'm not saying Gilmer will play in the state title game, I'm just projecting Stump's stats IF they do.

If Gilmer plays 15 games this season: 124 TD's and 9,959 yards

If Gilmer plays 16 games this season: 127 TD's and 10,235 yards

If you compare Godfrey's stats and projected stats to some of the quarterbacks on the all-time list; I think their passing attempts tell the real story. Stump has completed 498 of 791 attempts in his career. If he plays in 16 games this season; based on this season's averages he will finish with 691 completions on 1,056 attempts. Compare that to the following:

Career pass completions and attempts:
970 of 1,577 Drew Tate
895 of 1,371 Garrett Gilbert
805 of 1,234 Graham Harrell
680 of 1,231 Phillip Daugherty
650 of 1,200 G.J. Kinne

Who is recruiting Godfrey? When we (A. Wylie) played you in 2007 when he was a sophomore, I was very impressed. Any word on where he may play his college ball?

I hear that he has offers from Kansas St. and Tulsa, and one other school that I can't remember. He wants to do this the old fashioned way and go on his 5 recruiting visits and decide based on that. I would imagine that by the time schools realize what he has done, there will be some big schools offering.

Just wanted to get this back on the first page because I think a lot of people don't know about the records that are being challenged by Godfrey.
