Once again, Sinton travels into hostile territory to protect their unblemished record.

I don't know how many more close calls our fans can take, but if they all result in a "W", then we'll learn to adjust! :D

Robstown defense is holding their opponents to 24 ppg, but their offense is only averaging 26.6 ppg.

If Sinton's defense would play like they did in the 4th qtr against Mathis for 4 complete qtrs, we'd be dangerous!

And I say that, but looking at the caller stats (always tricky) they are only giving up 198 ypg. And only giving up 18.6 ppg.

When our offense is clicking, we can hang & beat anyone, last night's 4th qtr comeback proved that.

Not ready to make a prediction, but at this point, I'm not betting against our boys!

GO PIRATES!!!

Another tight one. We have to remember that Robstown is a good team with a perfect record in district. Sinton will win 28 to 26 in a close one. Also remember the game is in Robstown. That increases the risk.

Win or lose the majority here follow the outcomes of the playoffs.

I wish we had some Robstown posters. :(

Robstown @ Rio Hondo 24-20 W
Robstown @ Rockport (3-3; 0-2) 21-24 L
Ray (3-4; 2-1) @ Robstown 8-43 L
Robstown @ West Oso 40-34 W
Orange Grove @ Robstown 35-14 W
Robstown @ Aransas Pass 32-9 W

Another tough week for the Pirates. On paper, Robstown is more balanced offensively than we are. 1588 total yards: 941 rushing/647 passing. Defensively they are giving up 1232 yards on the ground. I'm not sure if those stats are through 5 or 6 games.

Numbers could play a factor late in the game as we have several players playing both ways.

Can't afford to get in the hole against a team as balanced as Robstown.

Sinton and Robstown clash this week for another big battle of the undefeateds in 31-3A

The exact same situation went down last year and does anyone remember what happened? ha, SINTON CAME OUT AND PROVED THEIR DOMINANCE OVER THE NEW GUYS that were on such a roll...The pirates will still be running off the adrenaline of last weeks amazing comeback win, im predicting the a repeat of last year and that SINTON STAYS ON TOP OF THE DISTRICT WHERE THEY BELONG!

Prediction:

SINTON 42
pickers 14

oh and here is the article from last year, just to bring back some memories ;)

SINTON — The new kids on the District 31-3A block were taught a lesson by the old warhorses Friday night: Big games require big performances.

Sinton High School muscled its way past Robstown 34-16, remaining unbeaten for the season and atop the 31-3A leaderboard at 4-0. After a hiccup season last year, the 6-0 Pirates again declared that the road to the district title goes through Sinton, although Pirates coach Tom Allen advised all to be wary of the surging Cotton Pickers.

"No doubt about it. The one thing, they are a very improved football team from last year," Allen said. "We played them last year and it was our only win. We were 1-9. We were in the same boat they were. They won more football games than we did last year. They were 2-8.

"But them dropping down to 3A it helps their confidence. Their kids fight real hard. This team could be a playoff team, who knows?," Allen said. "They're up on a bunch of people right now. They played real well. We'll just have to see how it goes the rest of the year."

It mostly went in Sinton's direction on this night. Richard Orta ran for three touchdowns and Roy Perez picked up the slack in the second half with two TDs after Orta injured his right shoulder. The Cotton Pickers, who fell into a three-way tie with Ingleside and West Oso at 3-1 for second place in 31-3A, couldn't overcome penalties, overthrown passes and Sinton's first-half passing game and second-half rush attack.

"We played hard, but we made a lot of mistakes. All the credit goes to them. They came out and took it to us," said coach Doug Wood, whose 3-4 Cotton Pickers had their three-game win streak snapped. "We missed too many critical plays, busted assignments on offense and defense, and it showed in the first half when we got down.

"In the second half, it started good. We got the onside kick deal, but we couldn't move it. They took advantage," Wood said. "That was the ballgame after that. It was just one of those nights. They're a good football team. There's a reason they're undefeated."

Robstown's Marty Gutierrez caught the second-half pooch kickoff to give the Cotton Pickers the ball at the Sinton 43. But the Cotton Pickers went nowhere on three plays and Joe Mungia's fourth-down pass from punt formation was intercepted by Ram Sanchez and returned 20 yards to Sinton's 45. Nine plays later, Carson Cave and Perez hooked up on a 12-yard scoring play to increase Sinton's lead to 27-10.

The Cotton Pickers weren't able to muster any offense until late against Sinton's No. 2 defense, with Randy Flores scoring on a 5-yard run with 3 minutes, 59 seconds remaining. Before that, Perez scored his second TD on a 2-yard run.

"I felt we matched up well but I don't think we played our best tonight, I know we didn't," Wood said. "We just made too many mistakes and that's what we said going in. The team that makes the fewest mistakes is going to win this game and that's what happened."

Orta totaled 39 yards on 12 carries and Perez ran for 89 on eight carries, all in the second half. Josh Harrison threw for 119, 103 coming in the opening 24 minutes.

SINTON (3-0, 6-0) AT ROBSTOWN (3-0, 4-2)

Last Week: Sinton 33, Mathis 28; Robstown 32, Aransas Pass 9

Next Week: Falfurrias at Sinton; Robstown at Mathis

The Scoop: Sinton QB Josh Harrison connected with WR Shane Segovia on three TD strikes last week, including two in a 23-point fourth quarter by the Pirates. Robstown signal callers Joe Mungia and Randy Flores were on the attack again last week. Mungia rushed for 114 yards and a TD, while Flores finished with 54 yards and three scores. They combined to pass for 79 yards.

SINTON AT ROBSTOWN

Sinton coach Tom Allen is still amazed at how the Pirates were able to rally from a 25-point deficit for a 33-28 victory over Mathis last week. Allen hopes the team doesn’t find itself in a similar situation against Robstown.

“They can really get after you,” Allen said of the Cotton Pickers. “We have to find a way to do some good things, and not just in the fourth quarter. That was a one-time thing last Friday.”

Sinton and Robstown are both 3-0 and tied for first place in District 31-3A. The standings will change Friday night. After last week, the objective for the Pirates has been to remain focused.

“That’s one of the things you have to guard against after a big win or bad loss,” Allen said. “Sometimes they’re tough to get over. We just hope the kids show some maturity and put it behind them because we have to get ready for the next one.”

Robstown’s objective is to avoid the miscues that cost the Cotton Pickers in last year’s 34-16 loss to Sinton.

“Last year we were in the same position and I think maybe our kids were a little overwhlemed,” Robstown coach Doug Wood said. “Our offense played well enough to win, but we made some mistakes in the red zone and didn’t get the ball in. This year we’re a lot more focused and have downplayed the emoition. It’s a big ballgame, yes, but we just have to go out there and play.”

It is not as bad as last week, but the Pirate defense just can't stop Robstowns offense. I hope they make some good adjustments because this is turning into a shootout.

Robstown kicker nail that 35 yd fg with ease. Sinton defense once again getting dominated up the middle in line of scrimmage as they seem to be playing the same defense of bend some and try and stop them with a shorter field. Sinton has open recievers all night just alot of drop balls.

Way to go Pirate!

What a game! Well played by both sides. Man this is one you are glad you won but you sure hate to see one of them lose.

I'm glad Sinton plays Fal next week. I need a break from all of this excitement.
