Robstown defense did a good job of hitting Sinton receivers as soon as they caught it and had some good sticks. This game was more intense than Mathis game as this game both teams couldnt stop each other and Mathis game that game in the 4th turn one sided.

Another Pirate Thriller
http://www.caller.com/news/2009/oct/17/another-pirates-thriller/
CORPUS CHRISTI — ROBSTOWN — Another week, another heart-stopper for Sinton High School’s football team.
After surviving a scare thrown into them last week by Mathis, the Pirates had to play gut-check again. The Pirates wrested sole possession of the District 31-3A lead Friday night but needed two overtimes to stave off a more-than-game Robstown squad 45-44 at Cotton Pickers Stadium.
Playing in another playoff-charged atmosphere, the Pirates secured the win when Matt Gaitan swatted away a 2-point conversion pass from Joe Mungia to Joshua Gaona in the second overtime.
The Pirates (4-0 district, 7-0 overall) had to come up with 30 unanswered points last week to edge Mathis 33-28. Against the Cotton Pickers (3-1, 4-3) again had to rally from a halftime deficit. This time, however, the Cotton Pickers wouldn’t go away.
In the first overtime, Robstown calmly moved the 25 yards to score on Randy Flores’ 3-yard run and Jesus Guerrero’s point-after kick. As it did all night, the Pirates came back riding the arm of Josh Harrison, who threw for 419 yards and three touchdowns on a 35-of-61 outing, and also ran for two scores.
After converting a fourth-and-6 play with an 18-yard pass to Jeremy Laws, Harrison connected with Kenny Galindo two plays later from 3 yards out and Laws’ PAT kick forced the second and deciding overtime with the teams tied at 38.
With the first possession of the second OT, Sinton was facing third and 10 from the 14 when Harrison and Shane Segovia tried to connect in the end zone. But Joshua Gaona was flagged for interference. On the next play, DeRick Castro scored from the 2 and Laws kick gave the Pirates a 45-38 lead.
Mungia and Gaona wasted no time, hooking up on the 25-yard scoring pass on the first play of the series before Gaitan broke up the ensuing 2-point conversion pass.
Mungia threw for 186 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 78 yards for Robstown, and running back Jovan Villanueva added 124 rushing yards and caught one of Mungia’s TD passes.
Sinton was able to force the extra sessions with Laws’ 25-yard field goal as regulation time expired. That drive started after the Cotton Pickers failed on a fourth-down pass from the Sinton 26.
Robstown had taken a 31-21 lead in the fourth quarter on Flores’ 39-yard TD strike to a wide-open Joseph Gaona and Mungia’s 78-yard bomb to an equally wide-open Joshua Gaona. The Pirates came back on the next series, however, moving 68 yards in just seven plays. They pulled within 31-28 on Harrison’s 15-yard pass to Ramsey Rivera, who finished with nine receptions for 145 yards.
Trailing 17-13 at the half, Sinton scored on a safety when a punt snap sailed over Mungia’s head. On the next series and with a short field after the free kick, the Pirates scored with 3:34 remaining in the third quarter on Harrison’s 3-yard pass to Flores. The 2-point try failed but Sinton led 21-17.
Sinton appeared poised to make quick work of matters. The Pirates drove the ball 75 yards on its first possession, 45 on the ground, scoring on Harrison’s 18-yard scramble. The Pirates needed to convert two fourth-down plays, the first on DeRick Castro’s 1-yard run and the second on Harrison’s 18-yard pass to Ramsey Rivera that moved the ball to the Robstown 19. Two plays later, Harrison scrambled in for the score and Jeremy Laws’ point-after kick gave Sinton a 7-0 with 5:27 to play in the first quarter.
Robstown missed a prime chance when Villanueva fumbled and the Pirates’ Matt Gaitan recovered at Sinton’s 6. The Pirates couldn’t convert but Robstown quickly countered.
The Cotton Pickers needed only eight plays to move 65 yards. Villanueva picked up 21 yards rushing on the drive, capped by Mungia’s 20-yard pass to Marty Gutierrez. Sinton was flagged for offsides on the point-after kick and, after the Cotton Pickers elected to go for 2, Mungia gave them an 8-7 lead after darting across the goal line with 9:13 to play in the half.
Sinton responded in kind. Harrison completed three passes for 44 yards, moving the Pirates to the Robstown 23. Three plays later Harrison scored from the 13. Robstown was offsides but Sinton couldn’t convert the 2-point play as Harrison’s pass for Gaitan fell incomplete, leaving Sinton with a 13-8 lead.
The Cotton Pickers marched right back, covering 58 yards in seven plays, with Mungia beating a Sinton blitz to toss a 15-yard TD pass to Villanueva. The try for 2 was foiled on a poor snap but the Cotton Pockers led 14-13.
The foiled fake punt by Sinton gave Robstown good field position at its 42 with 1:29 to play. The Cotton Pickers got a key fourth-down conversion on Randy Flores’ 2-yard run to the Sinton 47. Mungia passed 13 yards to Joshua Gaona, 11 to Gutierrez and four to Villanueva to set up Jesus Guerrero’s 35-yard field goal as time expired in the half.
