Region IV, Week 6, Game to Watch. Luling @ SA Sam Houston
The game tonight between Luling and SA Sam Houston has special significance because these two teams are fighting circumstances few teams ever face.
For Sam Houston the entire season is about keeping their school open. With the looming prospect of having their school closed down, the football team decided the best way to get the word out that they wanted to keep their school was to win. And win they have as they are off to a 4-1 start and it looks like they may have fought back the move to close down their school.
For Luling, they were called together yesterday afternoon by their Principle and given the news that their Head Coach, Robert Dean, had died after a brief illness. Tonight as they pack up for the trip to San Antonio and prepare to play the Hurricanes, they do so without their leader. It’s very hard to find meaningful words to describe the hurt this team must be feeling. I just hope they know there are football fans all across the region, and state, that share their hurt, and who are praying for the Luling Eagles and Coach Dean.
Good luck to the Hurricanes and the Eagles.
