From Austin American Statesman:
Luling head football coach Robert Dean was found dead this morning, a Luling ISD official confirmed to the American-Statesman. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Dean, 41, had missed parts of last week with pneumonia.

Luling’s game tomorrow at San Antonio Houston will still be played. Assistant coaches James Howell and Gene Scoggin will assume the head coaching duties.

Dean was 1-14 in 15 games at Class 3A Luling. Luling, which is 1-4 this season, won its first game under Dean on Sept. 18 with a 32-25 win over Goliad.

Such a tragedy. Prayer are flowing from the Navasota Rattler family and my family. May God hold those family members, friends, athletes and community members in his loving hands.

I'm so sorry to hear this news about Coach Dean. Prayers from Edna for Coach Dean's family and the entire Luling community. I have no idea how they'll get through Friday night, but if Coach Dean was like every other coach I ever met, he'd want the kids to play on. Eagles, your in our hearts.

In Honor of Coach Robert Dean
A memorial service has been planned to honor Coach Robert Dean on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 to be held at Eagle Field at 6:00 P.M.
Funeral services for Coach Robert Dean are under the direction of the Dorman Funeral Home in Orange, Texas. Visitation with the family has been set for Monday, October 12th from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 13th at 10:00 AM at the Little Cypress Baptist Church in Orange, Texas.
