BRIDGEPORT, Texas — The Bridgeport Bulls let a late lead slip away against No. 9 ranked Graham Friday night but still looked poised to send the contest into a deciding overtime.
But Graham’s Ethan Hiser blocked the PAT on Bridgeport’s final score to help the Steers hold on for a thrilling 49-48 victory on the road.
After leading 42-35 entering the final quarter the Bulls gave up two scores when Graham’s Spencer Sims pounded in a 1-yard touchdown run and Hiser caught a 10-yard TD strike from quarterback Case McCoy.
The Bulls (1-4) trailed by a touchdown but got back within a point after Cody Henson connected with Garrett Mullins on a 4-yard pass.
But that’s when Hiser pulled off his fourth-quarter heroics, denying Bridgeport of the enusing extra point that eventually sealed the deal.
McCoy had a spectacular night throwing for six touchdowns and 369 yards, while teammate Dylan Fulford finished with seven catches for 159 yards and three scores coming on receptions from 48, 30 and 27-yards out.
Corey Groves and Garrett Spear also hauled in TD catches from McCoy as the Steers stay perfect at 5-0 on the season.
