District 29 has developed into one of the tougher districts in Region 4. Bandera is very good, and Hondo, Devine and Pearsall are close behind, but come November someone will be staying home. These 4 teams have a combined record of 15-3 with the only losses coming at the hands of 4A Medina Valley, Cuero, and La Vernia.

This week’s game of the week features Pearsall @ Devine and neither team can afford a loss without serious damage to their playoff hopes. Devine looks to be the favorite, with the home field advantage and convincing wins over CC West Oso, Crystal City, Pleasanton, and Comfort. Pearsall has played a much softer pre-district slate, but hasn’t been threatened.
Who wins this key D29 match-up?

Nice choice! I am very interested in this game. I wish we had some posters from either team. :(

Devine has had the tougher road. Do we know if they've suffered any injuries along the way?

Pearsall had a wide open offense last year and a big line from what I remember. They had average speed.

I think Devine might be too much at home.

Of note: Pearsall beat Devine 29-24 last year after going 2-2 with this same pre-district schedule. Mavericks are 4-0 and averaging 40 points a game and the defense is giving up 10 a game. Mavericks on offense still run out of the shotgun but have an almost entirely rushing attack. I think they're just under 400 yards of offense a game.

Pearsall season recap:
W 49-7 - (4A) Southside had one drive on the Mavericks for a score. Cardinals 89 yds 8 first downs, 4 TOs (1 INT, 3 fum).

W 44-21 - (3A) Marion had a QB that moved in the pocket and kept plays alive. He kept the Bulldogs in the game for three qtrs. Bulldogs score on punt ret., once after turnover on short field.
Marion: 193 yds, 9 first downs, 5 TOs (3 INT, 2 fum)

W 44-0 - (2A) Nixon-Smiley was never in it.
NS: 113 yds, 9 first downs, 5 TOs (5 fum)

W 42-14 - Kennedy (4A) actually led Pearsall 7-6 at halftime. Mavs turned it over 7 times, five in the first half but still won 42-14. Pearsall scored 36 points in a span of about 12 minutes. Both Kennedy TDs came after Pearsall turnovers deep in own field.
Kennedy: 146 yds, 8 first downs, 5 TOs (2 INT, 3 fum).

That's Pearsall this year in a nutshell.

Third,
Thank you.
Good stuff there as we don't get a lot of info from that part of our region.

Pearsall numbers look very good. Good luck to the Mavericks.

What is a "Mavarick"?

I know what a Maverick is, but I have never heard of a Mavarick!

By the way, I pick Devine and I don't think it will even be close. I say Devine by 3 touchdowns.

While I'm being an English teacher, here's another one.

What is "Warhourses"?

I have heard of the Warhorses, but I have never heard of the Warhourses!

Mavaricks vs. Warhourses, now that is funny!

When I'm home playing H-O-R-S-E with my 10 year old daughter and she is kicking my butt I always try and sneak a U in on her to try and slow her down a bit. It usually works, she is 10, and I guess I let that U work its way into my vocabulary.

I could use a proof reader if you’re available Sunday PM when I'm doing the GOTW, and the Top-20, and on Tues & Wed when I'm doing the R4 preview. Want to help?

Wow Devine Fumbles the football a bunch. Bad snaps in the gun or trying to run option. I know nothing about Devine.

And Pearsall's been forcing a ton of turnovers, nearly five a game.

Mavericks' opponents record: 4-14
Warhorses's opponents record: 9-15 (Cuero is 5-0)

Just trying to reason why people so easily dismiss the Mavericks.

I'm not dismissing Pearsall at all. I believe it will be a very close game. I just think Devine will win.

Shoulda been worse, Pearsall basically handed Devine an early 8-0 lead.
