With the bulldogs coming off a huge win and the tiger off the bye this game is going to tell us alot about both teams. its yoakums size vs smithville's speed. The tiger D has been fierce all year and im thinking well slow down that O that just put up 70. Smithville can score in bunches, i dont know much about yoakum except there big and not to speedy. This is going to be a great test for the tigers to get them ready with distrcit coming the next week Smithville;s homecoming this week, hope the distractions dont get them. hmmm with that said my take is 28-27 Smithville in a barn burner.

This should be a good game. It will tell a lot about how good each team is. That being said I have to go with Yoakum. They are a very physical team with a very good qb and they are playing extremely well now. Yoakum by 2 tds.

I think Yoakum should win this one pretty easy. They are starting to get it going. The only thing I didn't like last night is the D line not being aggresive. They were coming off the ball, looking around, then penetrating. Instead of just blowing up the smaller O line at the snap.

The kids are beginning to understand the new offense and cutting down on the turnovers that killed them in the first 2 games. They will be able to move the ball on anyone. This season is shaping up to be similiar to last year. Their offensive line is huge and very strong. They have dominated the line of scrimmage the last 2 games. Defense still needs work, especially against teams with speed.
Dogs will put up another 40 plus ?
Smithville 20 plus ?, high scoring game with Yoakum on top!

Yoakum has a few guys with speed, the Heights kid can run the ball pretty well, but I woud think Smihille will key on him and try to make the rest of the Bulldogs beat them. I will go with Yoakum in a close game. 41-36

I will have to go with Yoakum as well, they seem to be peaking at the right time. Yoakum will be the only team to test Cuero in their District this year. Yoakum by 2 or 3 TD's.

I agree Yoakum will take this game, but I think Goliad and Edna both will surprise in District. They are both good enough to beat Yoakum and challenge Cuero.

Are you serious, Goliad and Edna will challenge Cuero?

District Results will be:
1. Cuero
2. Yoakum Loses to Cuero
3. Edna Loses to Cuero by a bunch

I think Yoakum will give Cuero a good game as will Edna! I watched them (Edna) at 7 on 7 and they are very athletic. Should be fun to watch!

Are you talking about the same Goliad team, Cureo starter will never see the field in the second half and Yoakum will beat them by 4 TD's. Last year Goliad had a solid RB/R that could make plays, this year don't think so.

Even though I think Cuero will beat Yoakum in 2 weeks, I really hope I am wrong!!!!!!!!! I just hope they play them close. Probably just wishful thinking on my part. A win over Cuero would be like a state championship to the Yoakum boys.

They have been saying this will be the year to go DEEP. They still need to work on their D though. Goliad will beat Palacios in district only. Thats it.

I dont think it will be easy for either team. The last two years they have split close games. Hope we keep them on our schedule because the last 3 years Smithville has played us hard and have shown very good sportmanship. The game is in Smithville and Yoakum has not won a game on the road this year.Good time to start before dist. because the first dist. road game is in Edna. Smithville is in one of the toughest dist. in the state . All 6 of those teams could make the playoffs in some districts in region 4.

Yoakum and Cuero always have a great meeting. Neighbors and rivals. Will be glad when this bye week is over for the Gobblers. Believe Yoakum will take the Smithville game. :D

wow not one pic for smithville, cant say i blame yall but what am i misssing here, smithville is 3-1 and won 3 strieght, yoakum is 2-2. yoakum scored 70 last week , smithville put up 67 two weeks ago. yoakum is yet to win a road game and the game is in smithville. to hear words like easly, handly, man i hope the bulldog players are thinking the same thing. Respect is earned an Smithville does not have a problem with that, this is gona be a great game is all i can say. but to say either team is gona blow each other out i just dont get.

Where is the stadium located in Smithville? Is it on 71 or by the new school on the Flatonia road?

JRH 7 the Yoakum players have great respect for Smithville. They have battled each other in close games from freshman thru junior grades. Nothing comes easy for Yoakum against good teams.
Marion is rebuilding with lots of sophmores so that game was a mismatch. Smithville is a whole lot different situation.

I think most us who pick Yoakum to win are doing so because when you compare each teams schedule it appears that overall Yoakum has played a somewhat tougher overall schedule. First, you can probably dicount both teams blowout over Marion and Luling. Neither team is very good this year. The next thing would be to compare the overal won/loss records of their opponents. Yoakum's is 12-7 and Smithville's is 3-14. Also, none of Smithville's opponents have a winning record while 2 of Yoakum's opponents have a record of 5-0 and 4-1. Yoakum is becoming a very good offensive football team and is capable of putting up 40 points or more every week and their running game is very powerful. Their offensive line is huge. It will be hard for Smithville to stop them. Having said that, you never know what teenagers will do on any given Friday night! Good luck to both teams and I hope everyone comes out of the game without injuries.

you probaly be coming through flatonia, just keep going past the high school, cross the tracks, take a right at the light (loop 230) then take a left at the diary queen and you cant miss it.

sorry for the misconception that i was saying yoakum doesnt have no respect for the tigers. 1-1 over the past two years and this the rubber match. Been a great series bettween the two, and i hope the AD;s keep them on the schedule for many years to come. Maybe if the UIL is looking to mix things up they will put smithville in and yoakum in the same district some day. hmm smithville, yoakum, luling, gonzales, and la grange/ columbos, hmmmm i like that alot. lol all withing a 50 mile radius of each other. lol, give smithville a break, dont get me wrong, dist 25 has made the tigers better bc of the level of the distrcit, but i would like a change of things sometime.

could happen if some of the hisd schools drop to 3a. bellville-navasota-sealy-columbus could be in a district with some teams from houston... you never know.

I've heard Yoakum may go 2A as we (Edna) may as well. Be a heck of a 2A district if we could have:
Edna
Yoakum
East Bernard
Rice
Halletsville
Industrial
Schulenburg

I really don't think that will happen. Yoakum is not even close to being a small 3A school.

Not counting the 2 El Paso schools Anthony and Tonillo, Yoakum is one of the bottom 3A schools in size. The 2008 numbers were 446, Palacios was 443, Goliad 432, Lyford was 435, Cameron Yoe was 437, Mineola was 439 and I believe Edna was bigger than all of these. Some of these #s will be smaller this time, but not Yoakums. I think their numbers will be up some. The numbers will be set next month.

I know we're headed off topic now, but remember, Edna was 2A two years ago. They had one large class that got them moved up to 3A, but from what I understand enrollment at the first of the year was 400 - 405. I see us dropping to 2A and staying there for a while.

Smitville was clicking on all cylinders tonight. D kinda laged off in the second half. i was impressed with yoakum coming out and playing hard in the second half. its very easy to lay down and gett waloped. shows alot of team character. Smithville was just to fast. ball carriers where able to turn the edges. recivers breaking the coverage. yoakum is very physical, but smithville was there right with them in the first half. there big bodys leaning on them got smithville tired in the second half. yoakum is a gring you out team. great win for the tigers, keep on with your fight yoakum. scratch it and district time. 0-0 for evreryone.
