After being tied early at 7, Wylie has controlled the game since.

I see that Wylie's 1st team D finally gave up a couple scores. Well it had to happen sooner or later.

Canyon took the wylie kickoff back to the wylie 30 and scored on their 5th or 6th play.

Overall the defense looks good, since this is their first true spread/passing team this year.

The Spread has been figured out. The spread next week will probably be Wylie by 14.

This was a good, tough game. Canyon was good and well coached. They made adjustments at half and made a game of it after being down 31-10 at the intermission by scoring two 3rd quarter TD's and pulling to within 31-24. Then the 'Dawgs took over and closed them out with several long drives to eat up the clock and add 10 more points... game over and hello 4-0 heading into district.
We got a few guys banged up tonight--it was a head knocker. Should be in good shape in two weeks for Brownwood. The Lions will be the ones getting knocked then... ;) As my maroon-clad friends keep saying--can't wait!

FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL »WEEK 4
BEAT GOES ON ■ Bulldogs move to 4_0 with victory over Canyon

DANIEL YOUNGBLOOD

The Wylie football team gave coach Hugh Sandifer a homecoming game to re_member Friday, as the Bull_dogs beat Canyon 41-24 on the same day his youngest daughter, Madison, was named the school’s home_coming queen.
The Bulldogs, who out_gained Canyon 495- 380, led 31- 10 at halftime and overcame a third quarter rally from the Eagles (2-2) to move to 4- 0 on the sea_son with District 2-3A play up next. “ We wanted to get on them early, and with that offense of theirs we wanted to keep the ball away from them. But we scored quickly a couple of times early and I was afraid it was going to be a shootout,” said Sandi_fer, who coached the entire second half in slacks and a button-down shirt after es_corting his daughter during halftime. “ Canyon came back in the second half and fought to the end, but I was real proud of the way our kids battled and regained control of the game.” Canyon was the first passing team that Wylie had faced this season, but despite throwing for 343 yards, the Eagles weren’t able to find the end zone consistently enough to put pressure on Wylie early.
A first quarter touch_down by the Eagles tied the game at seven with 5:40 to play in the period, but the Bulldogs outscored Can_yon 24-3 over the next 17:20 and went to halftime with a three-score lead.
Wylie quarterback Matt Preston, who completed12-of-24 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 59 yards and two more scores, had a hand in three of the Bulldogs' first half scores.
The senior scored on a three-yard sneak to cap the game's opening drive, hit Joe Nasser from 23 yards out to break a 7-7 tie and later scored on a six yard run to put the Bulldogs up 21-7 with 10:49 to play in the second.
Cory Ramos scored to put Wylie up 28-7 and the teams traded field goals before the half.
" We felt like we were in a good rhythm on that first drive, but then we had a few three- and- outs and they were able to take control in the first half," Canyon coach Blake Bryant said. " We've got to do a better job offensively to avoid that type oflull."
But thanks to their highpowered passing attack, the Eagles fought back in the second half.
Led by quarterback Connor Moore, who went 22 of 40 for 343 yards and two touchdowns, Canyon found the end zone twice in the first three minutes of the second half to pull within one score of the Wylie lead. Moore hit Chris Rhoten from 75 yards out to make the score 31-17 with 10: 59 left in the third and after a Wylie punt, Moore found Derek Odell for a 25 yard touchdown hookup.
But that was as close as the Eagles would get to the lead.
The Wylie defense held tough the rest of the way and Preston's second touchdownpass of the game, a sixyard strike to Nasser, putthe Bulldogs up by 14 with 17 seconds left in the third and an Austin Gray field goal with 44 seconds remaining in the game sealed the homecoming win.
" Homecoming is a big deal around here," Sandifer said. " We had a lot of people come back to watch this game, and we wanted to put on a show for them."

It was a good test for the 'dogs and except for the start of the third quarter, they handled themselves very well. I'm looking forward to Brownwood in two weeks.

I saw some Gilmer/Dangerfield highlights on FSN lastnight. I definitely have Gilmer as my #1.

Got to see this game. Was 2 well coached teams that got after it. Canyon can really pitch and catch with anyone but strugglrd running the ball which really made a difference. Wylie on the other hand was well balanced and so efficient. The multiple formations, shifts, quick counts is really good stuff and the best part is they execute. The defense for Wylie plays hard and really is athletic. With that being said this isn't the most talented Wylie team I've watched but I don't know that I have seen one that plays harder than this one. Good luck the rest of the way, class organization!

Man, you Brownwood folks are really an intersting group. You would think any group that was truly secure with themselves and the program they have wouldn't be as defensive as you. Good luck and relax, if your that good it will get played out.

I saw someone from Brownwood at our Homecoming game with a Purple Wylie shirt! He had big smile on his face and was waving at people in the stands. In fact, he has been seen around Wylie frequently. I think ccmom saw him last weekend at one of our school functions. Anyone from Brownwood know what's going on?

I think I might have taken a picture of him!:D
