41-7 Final

El Campo is good, but we were missing 2 key players that both go both ways. (1 is our starting RB/S (out just this game) and the other is our #1 WR/DB--- He is done for the year)

Started bad and ended worse for us.

Opening kickoff gets us to the 15 yd line. We go backwards and punt. Not a great punt to begin with, then it gets returned 10 yds and then we get a personal foul late hit.

They start at our 25 yd line.  2 plays later it's 7-0.

Same thing next drive except we get a holding penalty on the return. We start on our own 5 or so. Go backwards and punt again. They have the ball at our 40. Couple plays later is 14-0.

Next drive we finally scrounge a few first downs but I think we end up punting.

We play a bit better in the 2nd qt but at one point we are pinned on our own 1 yd line because of a great El Campo punt. Ends up being 21-0 at half.

El Campo comes out in the 2nd half, puts 2 td's on us really fast to make it 35-0. (They started their 2nd half drive on pour 35 ish yd line)

So by this time, the game is pretty much over. They score again on a 1 play 70ish yd run. Botched snap on EP. it's 41-0. Backups come in on D. We score a garbage TD.

Game over.

Could have been a lot worse had the EC coaches not pulled their starting D. Would have been 50 something to nothing probably. Complete domination. No other way to look at it really.

Basically what it boils down to is this: We're VERY predictable. Run it up the middle or roll out and let our QB try to run or throw a 4 yd pass into the flat to our FB. We run about 95% of the time.

So, basically, with our starting RB out.... we pretty much couldn't run it.... didn't even bother trying to pass too much, and when we did it was unsuccessful.

We had terrible field position all game because they have an awesome kicker and we were just getting stuffed a lot. As a result they had great field position all game.

AND, we couldn't stop their running game. They busted several runs over 30 yards and one Td for about 70.

Maybe if we get our RB back, play a team not as good as El Campo (noone in our district is), play at home, and have a little fire (none today)..... then we can win. I still think we're a pretty good squad when we've got our players... but not having Hernandez and Flannel hurt. Wouldn't have made that big of a difference against a great team like El Campo.... but it would have atleast helped some.

Anyway, I think we've got a good enough team to make the playoffs in 26..... just need to forget tonight. Definitely didn't go like it was supposed to.

Appling does it all for El Campo. Goes both ways, returns punts, etc. Hard to find that on 4A squads these days.

Oh well. Two weeks to regroup for when Needville rolls into town.
