Who was the toughest to bring down, hardest running, highschool RB you ever saw play? Not necessarily the best or fastest, but the hardest running.

I think one of the Gaines bros. from Vernon would get my vote...

Dwight Smith from 08' Carthage might get my vote, too.

Hutt Alred from Brownwood in a 1993 playoff game. No doubt a beast.

Brock Fitzhenry. i know he played qb but as much as he ran he was the most elusive i have seen play.

Keven Green from Brownwood back in '90. He would literally drag 2-3 players several yards before going down. What's also amazing is that he played both ways RB/LB.

Didn't see him play HS of course, but I bet Earl Campbell would have to be up there as one of the hardest running.

Dabryan Blanton. Hard to tackle someone when they can outrun you jogging.

I can't remember his name, but there was a kid from Mathis about seven or eight years ago that was just an absolute bull. In a game against Ingleside, I saw him drag three DL/LB's before finally breaking free just in time to run clean over the FS. After the older Soza kid graduated, he was the cog that kept that team going.

And what made it tougher was that Mathis' line was just a bunch of big hogs that year. The kid went on to play for UTEP, but again, can't remember his name.

Two others that come to mind both played for Calallen. Wes Danaher (who owns plenty of state rushing records) and Jesse Pavelka both had a ton of core strength, ran low, and were nearly impossible for one man to bring down.

Robert Straight - man among boy's led Cuero to 3 straight trip's to the finals in the eighties winning it all in 87. Have to say he had one hell of a line though they were big and athletic and would dominate the l.o.s. .

The absolute toughest that I have seen is LaMichael James 2 2000 yd seasons. 2007 he injured his shoulder in wk 6, and never missed a game. He would take a shot on it every 2 or 3 plays and it was brutal to watch the amount of pain he absorbed. He was LE' s only "real" weapon in 07. He was still avg 6+ yds / carry. TOUGH!

I didn't see him but Rodney Thomas from Groveton must have been one of the all time toughest. When he was at A&M he was a beast.

Personally, it would be Charlie Waldrep from Celina. Not a D1 prospect but ran with a will that is hard to describe....you had to see it.

Adam Harvey from the '98, '99, '00, and '01 Celina teams that won 4 straight State rings.

2A Player of the year in '01. He would LOOK for DB's to run over and punish.

I'll second that. I knew Hutt, his wife (ex-wife) was my teacher. She would show us highlights sometimes. What'd he ever do after UNT?

Dickerson wasn't all that hard to tackle, it was just that hardly anybody ever touched him. Once he got the ball and got started, he was like a ghost. Fred Smith made more yards after contact than prior to it. We called him the human pinball. He broke some of Dickerson's records.

My brother played against Eric Dickerson. He said he was the toughest running back they ever faced.

Yeah Adam was just unbelievable. He was not going to be beat! I'd have to throw in Josh Sharrock and Troy McCartney in there with him too. McCartney's legs never stopped churning after contact, he was insanely tough to bring down.

BTW Did any of you read the Victoria Advocate today about St. Joseph's opponent tonight. Corpus Christi Pope John Paul High School. They have a kid playing nose guard who is 6'-11" 340 lbs.
