My vote goes to West Columbia.

(Led by 3 when game was stopped due to lightning in 3rd qt.) Brazosport (4A) ---- Lost to El Campo in round 1 21-19 in 2008. They're better this year than last.

(L by 14) St. Pius (TAAPS) Always a tough opponent and top TAAPS school. At one point they won back-to back TAAPS championships.

(L by 14) @ Manvel (4A) 2nd year of varsity play, but they WILL be a playoff team. They won 5 games last year in their first year of play and they have AWESOME athletes and all their returning starters from last year.

(W by 10) Houston Kashmere (4A) No playoffs but great athletes.

* (This Friday) @ El Campo (4A) ---- Went 3 rounds in 2008, ended up losing a close one to Brenham.

Maybe not the toughest statewide, but that's a brutal non district.

Not to mention their 2 scrimmages were against 2 more 4A schools. One of which was Angleton (went 4 rounds in 2008) and are undefeated and ranked in the 4A top 10 this year.

That helps some... but those 3 in a row is rough.

I was reviewing Massey ratings the other day and they had Jasper as having toughest strength of schedule. A few others that I remember are :
3 Brownwood
5 Atlanta
6 Liberty Eylau
9 Celina
The ratings are compiled by a computer and eliminate the regional bias that we all have.

Basically what I'm talking about is how good the teams that we're playing in non district are THIS year. I used last year as a reference to show you how good these teams we're playing are now.

And on Huddleuptexas.com they have Bellville as the #1 toughest schedule overall. Interesting to see the different service ratings ain't it.

The power and overall are initially affected by last year but not schedule strength.

and Jasper is 2-1 through those three games. :)

Most people probably thought they would be 0-3 at this point in the year.
