Do you think 2 years is too much for shooting yourself in the leg? Even though it was an unregistered gun, a little much?

Gun control laws in these NE states are probably unconstitutional. That being said, if some jackass puts a cocked gun in his work out pants and it falls out and discharges in a crowded club he's a hazard to the public. 2 years seems a bit much. I'd say 6 months and a fine.

He broke the law and should receive the same punishment any other person would receive. I don't thinks its a bit much. He is lucky he shot himself and not someone else.

Okay, here's how I look at this. If the sentence is based on carrying a gun then I think it is harsh. If it is based on carrying a gun recklessly then I think he deserves some time but two years is too harsh. Six months max.

To quote a famous TV detective from the 70's.

"Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time."

If the punishment is to harsh maybe he will think a little more next time before placing a loaded gun in his pants to go to a night club.

Perhaps he should have gotten drunk and killed someone with his car like Dante Stallworth. What Burress did was stupid, but I think the sentence might be a bit excessive when I consider the Stallworth incident (and 30 day sentence).

Crappy law, hard punishment, one of the reasons I'd never live in NY, but it is the law and it should go punished however the state sees fit...

as for it being unconstitutional I've always wondered that myself... I get so confused... depends on what the State's Constitution is I guess?

I know in the US constituion it pretty much says that the right to bear arms shouldn't be messed with by the federal government. In the Plaxico case and others like it, it is the state government that has made these laws... yet the founders called it "the right" to bear arms, meaning they felt it was a right... wish they had gone further with that...

anyhoo, wasn't getting political about it, just always wondered about some things in our HISTORY!

Just think......If he would have killed himself, he would have been a top candidate for a Darwin Award!
