Sealy won back-to-back state titles in 94,95,96 and 97. Why have they never been a force in the playoffs since?

(I am a N.Texas HS football fan. I don't presume to know much about S. Texas football, but I do like to hear about the stories and histories of successful teams like Sealy for everyone's mutual enjoyment. I hope this thread is accepted in that spirit, as this is my only intent in puttting it up).

I honestly think they had a downturn in talent. They are on the upswing though. Same thing happened to Thorndale.

Talent, coaching , momentum, move ins, winning tradition: probably a mix of all of the above.

Back in some of those years,Coach Mills had some pull with the authorities. Discipline on the team was second to winning. Now that has changed the last several years and they are in the process of getting control and discipline back in order. Should be a team to reckon with in the near future,if not now.

They have a lot of talent and potential to make some noise in the playoffs this year, but with D25 being the gauntlet of a district that it is, they must first worry about getting into the playoffs. This years team is one of the best teams in a good while there in Sealy so we'll see how it plays out.

Those 4-Peat teams were an extraordinary combination of talent, coaching and mental toughness. People forget that Sealy was also in the finals in '99 and lost to a good Commerce team after Sealy's best RB came down with turf toe in the first quarter at that dump, Texas Stadium. When Mills left to go to Permian, most of the staff changed and the program just wasn't the same. Mark Faldyn is a class guy and a great OL coach, but never seemed happy as the HC. Demographic makeup of the ISD has under-gone significant change during the period after Mills left and the talent level suffered as the turnout for football dwindled. I'm not close to the program anymore, so I'm not sure how Coach Mitchell has turned the program around but he and his staff seem to have rekindled interest in football and has the team playing very well.

pretty good this year

if they can just squeak out of district then the sealy stock will soar until round 4

The post regarding demographics is correct. They are changing very quickly in that school district. The lower grades have a high percentage of hispanic students with fewer black and white students. If this trend continues you will a talent vacume.

Like the previous post said.... lost in '99 to a Commerece team that was well prepared. Sealy however should have won the game hands down. Since then the closest team to make a run came in '01 ( and they should have made a run) but slipped up and lost to Newton. I don't know much about the current coaching staff, but with the talent coming up.... Sealy should be ready to make another run.

Always seemed like Sealy would get a good move in or 4 or 5 during those years. Also, there were several times when athletes were able to "get out" just in time for the games.

The most significant of those who got out "just in time") was RB Fred Smith, I believe. Probably one of the most talented players in the backfield that I've ever seen. It's a shame that he never was able to put his life together. He broke Eric Dickersons records if I do recall. . I'd say that a pretty huge accomplishment.

It makes it alot easier to keep the statistics when the running back has one of those gps tracking devices on their ankle. They were able to get his yards carried down to the nearest inch!!!!

How is the RB's injury coming along? Will he be back by District?

My father was the cop who would escort him to the games on Friday nights from jail

good to finally see a sealy post! i couldn't have imagined a year where it was quiet in tigerland. thankfully we'll never know what that's like. however no matter how i feel about sealy they have a darn good team this year and will compete for the D25 title, however giddings will get that. but i can see sealy going deeper in playoffs than last year when they drew cuero right off the bat OUCH!!! but the tigers will have a good year a finally make some noise again!!

Downey's calf strain is healed. He played last week but it was so slick he slipped every time he cut. Expect big numbers from him and Davis tonight.

I stil think Sealy will move to 4A between 5-10 years. That area is growing

Royal will be moving up to 4A as well-big home additions going up in Brookshir

15-20 it will be Columbus' turn

East Bernard will be 3A 10-15 years-- That area is growing -The Kendleton rail road construction yard will emply a lot of folks and they have to move somewhere

Needville will be moving to 4A- The town isnt' growing but lots of folks are building around Fairchhild-between Boling and Needville on FM 442 and other places

The Tigers now have the Sealy Tiger Sports Network (STSN)..sealysports.com

Jim Turnbull, Joey Schmidt and the guys are working hard to bring the best of Sealy to everyone online!

the sky is the limit for the Tigers now that STSN is in town!

This is my 1rst reply on this site, I have been happy to just read, but some of the things on here are just flat out lies and I have had enough. Sealy is back because kids and the coaches have worked very hard to get there. XMAN get a life !!!!! What is the matter did Fred leave you looking for your jock? That is if you even got on the field. All you have to do is call Fred Smith and ask him all about the fiasco created by the folks north of the Mill Creek.....a D.A. others trying to make a name for themselves. Truth is Fred never saw the inside of a jail cell, and he can show you the case file, if you want to really know the truth, which I seriously doubt. Fred was in the wrong place at the wrong time and the other kid confessed the crime Fred was blamed for, if he hadn't been the Sealy star RB the DA would not have even bothered with the ordeal. there was nothing to it. Fred was a good kid back then and had a descent college carreer, he is doing pretty good now as well you folks should be ashamed of yourselves. to the other poster who said their dad would escort Fred from jail...both of you are liars! There is no way Fred could have not been in school and play on Friday night, that is the rules. I can hear the bashers saying TJ would have broken the rules anyway....you give TJ too much power..it would not have been possible. Fred was in class every day all day. I saw it with my own eyes, and before you start the "he was in jail on the weekend crap" I can prove that false as well. There have been football players in trouble in Bellville and other towns as well but they don't have the championship rings. It is lonely at the top and people will always try to trash you.. Hopefully this will make folks think before they speak on hear say and focus on the positives

good idea pirate4state. like I said the NEW Sealy players and coaches have worked very hard to get back where they are now. the trouble is some folks in Bellville can't let the rumors from the past go!!!!!and they have no idea of what really happened. I was very close to the Tigers of the 90's and I am still a huge Sealy fan just not as close. lets focus on today......

Let the pass be the pass.; Tiger4life, he be right. TJ did recruit a litttle, He convinced Coaches with goods football players to come tos Sealy or some peoples might sees it that way. But theys no law against that. TJ is good in mys book. Jimmy, He a different person. He good at what he do to. He proves that in Sinton. He knows what he dos. He having success because hes been here long enough to gets his system in. HE knows what he do and he dos it well. Fred, He be my freind. Wes goes way back. Peoples gives Fred a bad rap. Goods luck Tigers. :nerd:
