Ingleside (2-0) is coming into this game with big wins over (4A) Corpus Christi Miller (42-24) and Rio Hondo (50-12). Ingleside’s Offense can be very explosive with the run or the pass. The QB looked extremely comfortable in and outside the pocket when they played against Rio Hondo and the fact that he has cannon doesn’t hurt. RB Raydell Perez and RB/WR Dale Fabacher can open it up with the run or pass. Defensively, Ingleside has been able to make stops when necessary. They are quick to the ball and have pretty much played to the bend but don’t break fashion. Rockport-Fulton (3-0) comes into this game with 3 wins over teams from the 31-3A district that includes Orange Grove (29-8), Aransas Pass (23-0), and Robstown (24-21). From what the score’s indicate, Rockport’s defense appears to be playing better than their offense at this point. Additionally, from what I have read their main RB got hurt in last week’s win against Robstown.

Ingleside is rolling along and this may be a good test for their offense, but I still see the Stangs scoring potentially 28+. This game may be closer than expected, but I see it as Mustangs by 14.

Any thoughts on this game?

You pretty much said it all! :D This game might have been closer for a half if Rockport was healthy, but they lost a big piece of their offense and Ingleside does not = AP/OG/Robe.

I expect the Mustangs to put up big #s against RPF.

I have seen both teams play. Rockport against Orange Grove and AP, and both of Ingleside’s games, this could be a good game. Rockport gets turnovers and takes advantage of the short field for the majority of their scores. Rockport’s passing game is very week. The do have a good line and a couple good backs, Conway being out I don’t think will effect them on offense, because I did not see him being a big factor. A few questions. Can Rockport sustain long, time consuming drives that result in TD’s? Can Rockport defend the pass? Can Ingleside strike quick? Will Ingleside be able to move the ball on the ground? Will Rockport be able to convert 3rd downs with the pass? Will Rockport be able to score more than they did against a scrappy but over-matched Aransas Pass defense? 22 points! Will the Ingleside offense line win the war in the trenches? Will there be turnovers at crucial times? I don’t know the answers. But I will go with a prediction…. Ingleside wins in a “statement game” Ingleside 44, Rockport 19

Final recap: ingleside flat out came to play. The defensive line and linebackers were hitting RFs backs in the mouth on every play. I don't have the exact stats but the first string defense appeared to have held RFs offense to less than 140 yds. Inglesides offensive line did an outstanding job of creating holes for the RBs and did pretty well on pass blocking. Something that Ingleside needs to work on is penalties. They had some that could have been drive killers had it been a closer game. IMO this was probably one of the most well rounded games I have seen Ingleside play since Hesseltine has arrived in Ingleside. I think the Mustangs were looking to make a statement and boy did they!

Congrats on an oustanding finish in nondistrict play Stangs... You earned it! Now let's get ready for district play.

I believe that was Hesseltine on the Taft scrimmage. Taft may very well be ready to take it to the next level this year.

Here is an article write up from the Corpus Christi Caller Times:

http://www.caller.com/news/2009/sep/18/mustangs-gallop-to-homecoming-win/

INGLESIDE — Ingleside used a combination of big pass plays and key scoring runs Friday night to win the battle of the unbeaten football teams against Rockport-Fulton at Mustangs Stadium.

Fueled by a 21-point second quarter, the Mustangs (3-0) broke open a scoreless game en route to their 40-7 homecoming victory, which featured plenty of mosquitoes to go around on the field.

“This was a big win for our program against a quality Class 4A team that was undefeated,” Ingleside coach Graig Hesseltine said. “We performed well but started a little slow. Once we settled down, good things started happening.”

Running back Raydell Perez (who finished the game with 118 yards rushing on 21 carries and four touchdowns) scored on runs of 1, 3 and 32 yards to stake the Mustangs to the 21-0 second-quarter lead. Ingleside kicker Eduardo Hernandez also made all three of his extra point attempts in the first half.

“The second quarter in every game this year has been our breakout quarter,” Hesseltine said. “Once we’ve settled into our game plan, we’ve put points on the board. We scored 35 in the second quarter last week (against Rio Hondo).”

The Mustangs defense was just as dominant, not allowing a first down to the Pirates (3-1) until a little more than four minutes into the second quarter.

R-F was held to 29 yards rushing, 64 yards of offense and three first downs in the decisive first half.

Ingleside quarterback Brian Hull completed a key 10-yard pass to running back Dale Fabacher, which set up Perez’s first score from a yard out six seconds into the second quarter.

Hull later completed a 30-yard pass to wide receiver Matt McHugh, who made a diving catch just inside the left sideline, on third and 13. That led to Perez’s 3-yard TD burst with less than six minutes remaining in the second quarter.

Perez sealed the victory when he broke free from 32 yards out with 52 seconds remaining in the half.

Ingleside linebacker Matt Flores’ fumble recovery at the Mustangs’ 42-yard line thwarted R-F’s opening drive of the third quarter. Hull scored four plays later on a 23-yard run. The Mustangs missed the extra point.

Defensive back David McHugh pushed Ingleside’s lead to 33-0 with a 51-yard interception return for a touchdown on the Pirates’ next possession.

Perez added a 5-yard TD run in the fourth quarter, which would be more than enough for the Mustangs on this night.

R-F quarterback Stratton Williams scored on an 11-yard run with less than two minutes remaining in the game to help the Pirates avoid the shutout.

Both teams open district play next week, as R-F travels to play District 30-4A opponent Port Lavaca Calhoun, while Ingleside hosts District 31-3A foe Falfurrias.

IMO if RF would have had their main RB I don't think the score would have been much different. Maybe RF would have had 1 or two more TDS but we had RF stuffed at the line of scrimmage for most of the night.

Well when they could only beat AP by 22 or whatever it was, I knew all their pre season talk about being "for real" was just that, TALK!

I love AP, but they just can't seem to get it going over there!
