District 25 Week 2 Preview

Bellville open

Columbus v Hallettsville
The Cards roll on to their third victory hosting the other Brahmas. Hallettsville will give them a decent game but Columbus wins this one.

Giddings @ Wharton
Covered in D26 write-up

La Grange v Needville
The Leps offense is getting more dynamic each week while their defense is solidifying into a solid wall. Needville's talent and athleticism will make a good game but the Leopards will put up too many points for the Jays. Leopards over Jays.

Sealy @ Rice Consolidated
The Tigers continue to roll. Rice doesn't go down easy but the Tigers wear them down to win it in the fourth.

Smithville @ Luling
Covered in D27 write-up

District 26 Week 2 Preview

This could be a rough week for District 26. They are playing some really tough non district opponent's this week.

Brookshire Royal (1-0) @ Bryan Rudder (0-2)
The Falcon's will try to build off of their week 1 victory. Bryan Rudder comes into the week 0 - 2. I believe the athlete's for Brookshire will come out victorious Friday Night.

Prediction Brookshire Royal

Needville (2-0) @ La Grange (2-0)
Covered in D25 Write-up

Stafford (2-0) @ Hitchcock (0-2)
Both teams have had year's so far that will surprise their fans. Stafford has a strong passing game while Hitchcock who usually has a potent offense has only scored 25 points. Hitchcock returns District MVP QB Morris Tuck and RB Darius Dotson who is one of the best unknown running backs in the Greater Houston Area.

Prediction Hitchcock

Brazosport (2-0) @ Sweeny (1-0)
This will be the first of many difficult challenges the Bulldog's will face this season. Brazosport will lean on the leg's of RB Gary Biven's (28 carries 283 yds 3 TD's - last week). The Brazosport front four will make the Sweeny running game difficult. The Sweeny offense will need to clean up some miscue's from Zero week. The Sweeny Defense will have to play Huge especially stopping the run. If Special team's determines the game I go with Sweeny; Defense Brazosport.

Prediction Brazosport

West Columbia (0-2) @ Manvel (1-1)
West Columbia will travel to Manvel in hope's of getting their first win of the season. Roughneck QB Daymond Lewis played well last week vs. St. Pius as did RB Sean Flannel. More will be needed against the Maverick's. Manvel QB Dexter Foreman will use his arm and legs to move the ball on the Neck's. His main target is WR Saqwan Edwards (6'0 170 4.4 40). On Defense Manvel has some playmaker's as well. DE Two Willis (6'3 235 4.5 40) a D1 Prospect will cause have in the backfield for W.C. If they double him look for LB Shaka Starling to make the play.

Prediction Manvel

Giddings (2-0) @ Wharton (0-2)
I'll make this short and sweet. Is that thunder I here? No that will be Giddings Thundering Herd Running up and Down the field in Wharton. This game will be over after the first quarter. Gidding's has too much for Wharton.

Prediction Giddings (in a blowout)

District 27 Week 2 Preview

LaVernia vs. Wimberley
LaVernia has looked sharp in both of their games and Wimberley has not. With the Wimberley QB getting hurt last week, we have to go with LaVernia by at least 20 pts.

Luling vs. Smithville
Luling has struggled on defense this year and are riding a 14 game losing streak but what better time to start a winning streak than Homecoming. Smithville should be able to move the ball at ease but watch out for the big play from Luling(especially Mager). We will take Smithville in close one.

Marion @ S.A. Cole
Marion has yet to find their grove and Cole is in a high scoring one. Look for Cole in a blow out.

Poteet @ S.A. Memorial
With Santos carring the ball(18 att 163 yds 2 td, 1 game) for Poteet and Memorial averaging only 130 yards per game of offense, look for Poteet to literrally run away with this. We will also predict that Poteet has a kick return for a TD in this one.

Sam Houston @ Pleasanton
This game will depend on which Sam Houston shows up to play. The one that put up 60 in week zero or the one that only scored 6 last week. Who ever has the most big plays wins, we think it will be Pleasanton.

Somerset @ Dilley
Somerset is coming of a disappointing lose to Hondo last week and should rebound this week at Dilley. Dilley lost to Poteet last week and Somerset is better than Poteet. Somerset should win by a couple of touchdowns.

District 28 Week 2 Preview

Cuero(2-0) vs. Devine(2-0)
This is the Gobblers home opener. Cuero seems to be a motivated team playing with purpose and positive emotion. We think their first game at home brings out even more and while that is mostly positive, sometimes an overly pumped up team can make mistakes. Once the Gobblers settle down and get in a groove they will roll over Devine, but we look for a close game until after half when Cuero pulls away. Devine has experience, especially on defense, but they don’t have the depth, speed, and on this Friday night, the intensity that Cuero brings.
Cuero by 17

Edna(1-0) vs 2A Van Vleck(0-2)
Edna had to cancel last week’s game when over half their team came down with the flu. Are they fully recovered? Will missing a week’s practice and game throw off their timing? We think so, but we also think they will find what they need to prevail over VV. Van Vleck is 0-2, but they’re not playing cupcakes as they’ve lost to Sweeny and Columbus, although neither game was in doubt after half.
Edna by 13

Yoakum(0-2) vs. 2A Schulenburg(1-1)
This is the week Yoakum gets off the snide with a convincing win over an undermanned shorthorn squad. The bulldogs have to much size, strength and experience to come close to losing this game. The fact that the ‘horns may be without their QB, who is their best player and was hurt last week only seals the deal for the ‘dogs. This game is never in doubt.
Yoakum by 25

Gonzales(0-2) @ Canyon Lake(2-0)
This is Canyon Lake’s first senior class and we think they will surprise a few teams this year. They have every starter back from last year and they can put points on the board. Gonzales is hard to read, but we think they are improving. They were blown out in their first game vs. Dripping Springs, but DS is a very good football team. Last week the Apaches lost a hard fought game vs Lockhart 20-28.
We still think the Apaches will be a factor in D28, but we like the hawks in this one.
Canyon Lake by 3

Goliad(0-2) @ Orange Grove.(0-1)
This game is covered in D31

Palacios(1-0) @ Brazos Consolidated(1-1)
The Sharks earned a hard fought victory vs 2A Tidehaven last week. We think they earn another victory this week in similar fashion.
Palacios by 2.

District 29 Week 2 Preview

Bandera vs. Llano
We think the Yellow Jackets are a dangerous team and they will be a factor in 8-3A, but on the road vs. Bandera we believe they lose in a close game. Bandera bounced back from a week 0 loss to la Vernia to beat a very good 2A Lago Vista team on the road. We like the Bulldogs.
Bandera by 5

Carrizo Springs @ 2A Jourdanton
Win #2 for Wildcats this week over the Indians.
CS by 10

Crystal City vs. 4A Uvalde
4A Uvalde will be too much for the Javelinas.
Uvalde by 12

Devine Vs. Cuero
Cover in D28 write-up

Hondo vs. 4A Medina Valley
The Owls are overmatched this week. Medina Valley is a good team and they put this game away early.
MV by 25

Lytle @ 4A SA Kennedy
SA Kennedy will be too much for the Pirates this week.
SA Kennedy by 10

Pearsall @ 2A Nixon-Smiley
The Mavericks prevail in a blow out.
Pearsall by 29

District 31 Week 2 Previw

Aransas Pass (0-2) @ 2A Banquete (2-0) - As much as we'd like to give the Panthers the nod, Banquete has two shutouts and has a punishing ground attack. Aransas Pass goes to 0-3.

Falfurrias & CC West Oso - OPEN

Rio Hondo (0-1) @ Ingleside (1-0) - Rio Hondo took a beating at the hands of Cuero last week and while we don't think Ingleside is anywhere near the talent Cuero is, they will handle Rio Hondo at home. Ingleside by 14

Goliad (0-2) @ Orange Grove (0-1) - Goliad gets on the board with their first win of the season. Tigers by 7

Robstown (1-0) @ 4A Rockport Fulton (2-0) - This will be a good measuring stick for Robstown. Rockport has played and beat 2 other D31 teams, the streak continues this week. Pirates by 10

4A CC Moody (1-1) @ Sinton (1-0) - Moody was thrashed by 5A King last week and will have their backs up. Sinton had a week off to correct week zero mistakes. Pirates by 10

District 32

Hidalgo @ Falfurrias
We expect Hidalgo to run with this one big, earning their first win of 2009.

Hidalgo 49
Falfurrias 6

Progreso @ Marina Military Academy (MMA)
This should be a good defensive test for Progreso. We think Progreso's offense will be successful against MMA.

Progreso 21
MMA 13

Port Isabel vs Edcouch-Elsa (4A)
Edcouch-Elsa not starting their star running back might hurt the already sputtering offense. Port Isabel will have a tough time against a great defense, though. We expect another close game for Port Isabel.

Port Isabel 14
Edcouch-Elsa 21

Lyford @ Santa Rosa (2A)
Lyford will air it out, yet again, against a decent Santa Rosa team. We do not foresee Santa Rosa being able to stop Lyford at all.

Lyford 49
Santa Rosa 14

Raymondville @ Valley View (4A)
Raymondville won a tough one in overtime against Kingsville last week, while Valley View lost a close one against Port Isabel. Both teams should expect another nail biter.

Raymondville 14
Valley View 17

La Feria @ Weslaco East (4A)
Weslaco East has been on a rampage lately. We think they will deal easily with La Feria, unless some major changes were made by La Feria after their disappointing season opener last week.

La Feria 10
Weslaco East 35

Zapata vs Roma (4A)
Zapata was blown out of the water last week by a Laredo LBJ, who has won only three games in three years. Roma is looking to notch another win, after a bye week.

Zapata 12
Roma 17

Rio Hondo @ Ingleside
Covered in D31 write-up

Expect weather to be a factor in many Region 4 games this evening.
A tropical depression may be forming off the Texas coast and moisture is streaming inland over much of the state and especially the Region 4 area. Drive safe tonight and bring your rain ponchos. Boys, put on the big cleats.

The Valley has gotten more rain in the last week than in the last 9 months.

I heard one weather guy say 'it's beginning like it did in Oct 1998" Oh dear - we need the rain but not THAT much..

for the Devine folks coming to Cuero, we've gotten rain but nothing like other areas - so unless it rains more today, should be fine in Cuero :)

Everyone be safe out there tonight :)
