View Full Version : Week 2: Ingleside -vs- Rio Hondo

I figured one of the other Ingleside fans that follow the Mustangs would have posted this by now....but I guess I will.

Ingleside is coming off the bye week and has looked pretty good so far this season. They are big up front on both sides of the ball from what I understand w/ a fairly potent offense.

Rio Hondo is coming off of a loss to state ranked Cuero. Rio Hondo appears to rely heavily on their running game and their bruiser RB who had a couple of decent runs against Cuero.

My prediction: If Ingleside can slow down Rio Hondo's RB....the Mustangs should take care of business.

Who wins this matchup? Your thoughts?

You beat me to it... At any rate, If Ingleside can minizime mistakes and unnecessary penalties I like their chances of coming out with a win. Once the Mustangs Offense got it together in the game against Miller they began to steadily move the ball down the field. I will take the Stangs by 14.

RH lacks speed and will struggle against teams with speed. They'll have the size to matchup and do better offensively but Ingleside is a hurry up offense that likes to go down the field asap with some good speed.

Anyone on here planning on making this game? I had planned on going, but not if there is high chance of thunderstorms. It looks like that is going to be the case for the Corpus and surrounding areas.

Yeah it has been that long. I moved to SA around Jan. of 08. I would be nice if Ingleside would start doing some webcasts of their own.

Thanks, gob.

I wonder what's going on in RH? Do they just have a young team that needs a little time to gel? They've had a heck of a program the last few years.

Good luck the rest of the way, Bobcats.

Good luck the rest of the way, Bobcats. They DO sound like they've got one bruiser of a RB. Maybe they're just young. I'm really not sure what they lost to grad. this past year.

There RB was running over our defensive backs for the first two qtrs. He was a big boy. They didnt give him the ball in the second half that much though because at that point they really needed to pass and Ingleside shut that down.

Good luck the rest of the way, Bobcats. lack of speed on both sides of the ball. They have some size but young. They should get better but a team with some decent speed will give them fits this year.

RH returned 3/3 . . . so yes, they are young and inexperienced.

That is still no excuse for the way we payed tonight.

I really thought we would be in this game . . . but stupid mistakes costed us dearly.

I was impressed with our QB (#8).

Played a damn fine game for being a freshman . . . and this being only his second varsity game.

From the two games I've listened to/followed of you guys so far this year....it sounds like ya'lls RB is a LOAD! Has moved the ball on everyone you guys have played......just sounds lilke...as you say...theres a lot of young guys out there and he isn't getting the help that he needs.

Good luck the rest of the way RH.

Dang, freshman QB? They'll need time, but it sounds like you'll get there. And playing against two perennial playoff teams will give your boys an idea of what's ahead.

Good luck the rest of the way. I'm interested to see what you look like in a year or two. Should be a fun team to watch, Johnny.

I think it will be Lyford winning District, with Rio Hondo, Raymondville, Port Isabel, and La Feria fighting for the last two playoff spots.

RGV forum there is only like 1 poster. Lyford is the smallest school in 32-3A with a 435 enrollment. Lyford is primarly a passing team, that played Sinton in the 2nd or 3rd round last year. They had a couple of all state players with the high stat passing game. QB Johnny Esparza

"Lyford led the Valley in passing yardage a year ago as Esparza and superb fill-in Noe Valdez tossed for over 3,600 combined yards." VMS

http://www.rgvsports.com/articles/lyford-4736-days-time.html

http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/zWRCHGimEk6lxgw6nf7W-A/lyford-bulldogs/football/preview.htm

"Coach Infante's Bulldogs return another high octane offense powered by quarterback Johnny Esparza. Esparza could be the best quarterback in the district. Last year Esparza threw for 1,800 and 23 TDs and he was hurt the first part of the season. With the majority of the 0-line returning, Esparza should be able to sit back and throw the ball again.

The Bulldogs should outscore the competition this year, but the defense should be better this year. Defensive end Jason Carranco and Free Safety Sammy Ambriz should be able to limit the possessions for the opposition."
