watching the film. i had forgotten how close this game was. 18-14 to start the 4th. we had so many chances, but Everman's D was tough! that last "td" still irks me. :twitch: :twitch:

lots of false starts for both teams.

great, great defensive battle!

Not trying to knock Everman but there was a bit of controversy that got them to that point with their win over Wichita Falls Old High. I remember Evermans WR "caught" a TD pass in the back of the endzone and that was the difference in the game.

Wasnt Davis coaching in Sinton then before he took off to The Colony?

That was Davis' last year in Sinton. Most of those assistant have also moved up to head coaches/ADs too.

Yep, some great defense on both sides considering BOTH offenses went into that game having put up over 600 points apiece in that season.

Sinton playerdidn't fair catch with Bulldogs all around him. And then.....WHAAM!!! He gets popped, Everman recovers and goes on to score. Sinton had all the momentum up to that point. After that it was all Everman. Both D's really laid the hammer that day.

also the next drive, running hand sweep to the left and rb has lots of room, olb comes thru and helmets right on elbow and ball goes flying.....on about the +40 and driving.....that really let the air out.....awesome coaching in that game....have played in a few but coaching in one is way more cool!!

The biggest turning point (IMHO) was when Alaniz completed the deep stretcher pass to Marcus Charles and the Everman defender slugged it out of his hands straight up in the air and CAUGHT it before it hit the ground. Best defensive play of the day.

Me, too.

Wasn't it really cold and rainy that day? I remember Everman had a great D, and the Alaniz kid from Sinton was quite an athlete. Wasn't he just a junior that year? I seem to remember him playing in the Burnet game the next year. Anyone know where he is pitching now?

Adrian Alaniz was drafted in the 8th round of 2007 draft (250th pick) by the Washington Nationals. He is in Harrisburg Pennsylvania pitching in AA.

I think there were 4 extremely good teams that year. Bellville,Everman,Forney and Sinton. Lot's of athletes on those teams that year.

Bellville definitely could have taken Forney for 2nd best that year.:inlove:
They were awesome!

Burnet could have beat all of us if Bellville hadn't gotten "lucky".

funny no one ever talks about the D2 champ that year Commerce....I guess since they lost to Forney in the regular season it was a done deal the D1 champ was the best team...man Reg. 3 was weak that year with a mediocre at best Brdge City team winning it...

2001 was an odd year as Reg. 4 was the Region playing for the state title in both D1 and D2...Reg. 4 that year had Sinton, Bellville, LaGrange, Gonzales, Burnet, Wimberley....all of whom would have been the top team in Reg 3

We whooped up on Bridge City pretty good! All we kept hearing is how there was no way we could keep up with their speed! :hand:
