Four kids were involved in a car accident last night, 3 injured 1 died.
Jacob Scott Bardin, 17 of George West died at the scene of a one car rollover on Saturday night (Aug. 29) at approximately 10:45 p.m. according to DPS officials.
Three other passengers were injured: Julian Zuniga, 17; Raynaldo "Ray" Casas, 21; Gabriel Martinez, Jr. 18; all of George West. Zuniga and Casas were transported to Spohn Memorial by ambulance and Martinez was transported by HALO to Spohn Memorial.
According to the Live Oak County Sheriff's complaint log the accident occurred on Jones Road two miles west of FM 534 in Live Oak County. Bardin was driving a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder on FM 534 when he was clocked by Live Oak County Deputy Ken Baker driving 93 miles-per-hour. Baker attempted a traffic stop but the driver refused to stop and there was a pursuit, said DPS officials. The vehicle then turned off of FM 534 on to Jones Road westbound according to the DPS report. Bardin allegedly accelerated over 100 mph on Jones Road; the road turned into a caliche road, reported DPS officials.
"The Deputy lost sight of the vehicle due to the time of night and the road conditions and due to the fact that he had backed off the pursuit," read the DPS report. Baker continued down Jones Road and found the vehicle had crashed continued the DPS report. "When he found them the vehicle had travelled off the road and had gone through a barbed wire fence and rolled according to the report," said the DPS spokesperson.
The Swinney Switch Fire Department was contacted for the "jaws of life" and to help clear a landing zone for HALO, according to the LOC complaint log. Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, Judge Virginia Tanguma was called to the scene at 11 p.m. to hold an inquest.
