Hey, I said it might be close, and that is pretty close!

It may all change in the second half, but new Jasper coach Bickham is serving notice that there is a new sheriff in town. :)

Let's call this the "Game of the Week". :)

Per a Gilmer poster on another board:

"Gilmer's offensive line is getting blown up. Gilmer has only been able to move the ball on quick passes. Stump hasn't had time to let longer plays develop."

Getting close to second half start. Gilmer coaches have had a half to figure out the Dogs. Could get tough for the Dogs now. We'll soon know if the Dogs are really for real.

Gilmer will receive to start the half.

You don't keep a team like Gilmer out of the end zone forever.

Now to see how Jasper responds. This is a good opportunity for Jasper to see what it has.

JasperDog94
08-28-2009, 09:49 PM
3rd and long for Jasper in their own territory.

Pass incomplete and Jasper has to punt. (3 and out)

JasperDog94
08-28-2009, 09:53 PM
Gilmer takes over in their own territory...but then in one play Gilmer is in Jasper territory.

JasperDog94

Gilmer converts on 3rd and short...driving down the Jasper 12.

I think the Dogs made them mad in the first half. ;)

Dogs have their job cut out for them now. But we knew Gilmer would make some adjustments.

JasperDog94
08-28-2009, 10:00 PM
Sounds like Gilmer made some good halftime adjustments to what appears to be a pretty solid Jasper defense.

JasperDog94

Jasper driving the ball deep in Gilmer territory.

JasperDog94

Jasper loses a fumble for the 3rd time tonight.:( Can't do that against any team...much less a team the caliber of Gilmer.

JasperDog94

Interception Jasper!!!

Jasper in Gilmer territory.

JasperDog94
08-28-2009, 10:10 PM
Jasper going for it on 4th down...timeout Jasper. About 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

JasperDog94
08-28-2009, 10:12 PM
Jasper going for it on 4th...false start Jasper.

Jasper to punt.:( (timeout Gilmer?)

JasperDog94
08-28-2009, 10:16 PM
Gilmer QB is doing a great job of finding the holes in Jasper's zone defense.

JasperDog94
08-28-2009, 10:19 PM
3rd and long for Gilmer...pass incomplete.

Gilmer to punt. Jasper fumbles the punt and Gilmer recovers....Wow...:( :( :(

j_dog
08-28-2009, 10:21 PM
Jasper holds, fumbles on punt. Gilmer inside five. Sixth Jasper fumble, and fourth lost ball. Cannot beat Gilmer doing that.

JasperDog94

4 plays later Touchdown Gilmer...flag on the play.

Personal foul on Jasper.

Gilmer - 29

Gilmer scores on the short field. PA good.

51.5 seconds to go in third qtr.

Gilmer 29-7

JasperDog94
08-28-2009, 10:24 PM
Jasper defense is playing much better than the score indicates. 4 fumbles in the first 3 quarters and Gilmer only has 29 points. You hate to call that a moral victory, but it sounds like the Jasper defense is playing well. Offense and special teams just need to hold on to the ball.

JasperDog94
08-28-2009, 10:25 PM
Jasper recovers the onside kick. Now let's see if we can hang on to the stinkin' ball.

Sounds like if Jasper could have held onto the ball they'd very much be in this game and possibly do the "impossible".

Is it Jasper has that kind of talent this year (minus the mistakes) or is Gilmer not as advertised?

Huge gain by Jasper into Gilmer territory...flag on Jasper. Holding. *sigh*

I think Jasper has their normal speed with a coach to organize it. Defensively they have been all over Gilmer QB per the announcers. Gilmer surely is as good as advertised. They have most of their players back from last year's QF team.

Jasper announcers are all over one of the officials who they claim is out of shape. The say the game is being delayed because he can't jog from one part of the field to the other. lol I've never heard the Jasper announcers talk about an official that way.

42-14 final

Not a bad game for the Dogs. Gilmer didn't play as good as they are able from what I could hear.

Turnovers reared its ugly head in this game for the Dogs. Not unusual when you play a team of Gilmer's quality to lose some turnovers when playmakers are on the field on the defensive side of the ball.

I think the Dogs will only get better as players and coaches learn in these first few tough games.

HaHa! That was me!

Gilmer's offensive line is going to have step it up if we want to make a long playoff run.

I saw we didn't have Jeremy Jackson at RB, and they only threw him the ball a few times in the 3rd quarter. You would think after the career he has had the past two years they would start him at running back like always. We could of used his big play ability out of the back field.

Idk what his stats were but Stump did not look on tonight, lots of it had to do with sloppy oline play.

Jasper front 7 can get after the qb well, and they played pretty well in the secondary. There offense was pretty good and if they could of eliminated the turnovers might of kept it closer. IF this game does happen again 10 weeks from now it could be very close. Hopefully by then Gilmer will have all the kinks out.

For those who've forgotten what transpired in the first Jasper-Gilmer game.

I think BOTH teams are WAY better than they were in August. I say Gilmer wins this one and it probably won't be close at halftime.

Well, I'm for the Buckeyes, so it might be wishful thinking on my part.

However, even if it's not close at halftime, don't despair. Tatum gave Gilmer a HELLUVA game in the second half Friday night. Still wound up not being close, though, unless you call 39-20 close.

Unfortunately for Jasper, the fact that Gilmer lost the second half the other night probably means the coaches will light a fire under their backsides this week. Also, Tyler is like another home field for Gilmer. They play there every year and haven't lost since G.J. Kinne quarterbacked Canton to the 61-58 upset in the 2005 Division II Area game.

I don't know that Jasper is "way better". Just some country dogs trying to get by. Gilmer will be an even more overwhelming favorite this time around.

it seems like de javu all over again.

speaking of de javu, in 04 it was not close at halftime either. ;)

I know Gilmer had a big lead, but I don't remember the halftime score even though I was there. It started at around 5 p.m. and the sun set by the end of the first. It was a picture-perfect day for high school football. I DO remember that.

Unforgettable day for those kids, too. I'm sure they could tell you the score at the end of each quarter. It's hard to believe Manuel Johnson is now on the practice squad of the Dallas Cowboys. Seems like just yesterday he was QB for the Buckeyes in that game.

Jasper's offense, I remember (under Coach Danny Lauve, IIRC), was pretty crazy. You never knew exactly who was going to get the snap. At the first of the game, they hardly ever snapped it to Gilbert Moye, who we all thought was going to get the snap on every play, being the QB and all.

I don't remember the score at half, except that Jasper was down by 21 I think it was. :(

Yeah, you didn't know who was going to get the snap, nor what they were going to do with it. I called it the triple triple option. :D All 3 backs had been the starting QB at some point in their high school career so they all could do it all. That is what made that crazy system work.

In the state game with Jasper I believe Gilmer was up 28-6 at half. What transpired in the second half was absolutely mind boggling, the always composed manny johnson threw 3 interceptions I believe, and Jasper could not do anything wrong on offense against a defense that was giving up liek 12 points a game.

I remember thinking towards the last quarter, I think Gilmer was up 42-34 or something like that. I thought man oh man Jasper is going to be sick if they lose a state championship cause they can't kick extra points. It's almost like a basketball team getting to state and losing by 2 pts, and being 1-12 from the free throw line.

As far as this weeks playoff game I think the outcome will be similar. Jasper keeping it close at half, something like 14-7 Gilmer. And then the final being 42-21, with Gilmer scoring a late one to ice it.
