Good gawd man! We were the team that was playing Wylie
for the outright 2-3A title in week 10 last year.
Everyone else was clawing for a playoff spot.
There isn't any reason not to expect the same thing this year.
Sure we are going to have growing pains, but
all we have to do is escape Breckenridge( I'll never skip
a game against them to watch AW/BW again).
That, beat two prior 3-7 teams and then Snyder. And who doesn't
beat Snyder???

 :D

Final score was 20-6. At halftime it was 7-0, 10-6, or 14-6.
Something like that anyway. It was a tight game through out.

Looking forward the Burkburnett/Sweetwater game Friday night. Not looking forward to the drive though. :(

Looks like Sweetwater has a great stadium..great fans..great traditions. And it is an honor for us to play in the Sammy Baugh Classic. He was a great player and person.

We also know Sweetwater wants revenge for last year.

We were looking for recommendations on places to eat in Sweetwater as we always want to to patronize the host city's businesses. Is Allen Family-Style restaurant good? We see some nice reviews on the internet.

Thanks all you Sweetwater fans!

Oh my......that restaurant is so good...it will make you want to stand up and slap your grand ma..

:D :D :D

My old high school friend Billy Allen now runs the place since dear old Ms. Allen has passed on.

Great home style food that is famous for it's fried chicken.
Sit down at a table, (don't worry about sitting down with strangers, you'll be friends by the time the meal is over), and get ready for a feast of epic proportions...

Bowls of cream corn, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes...fried chicken, green beans...and for desert? PEACH COBLER!!!...it's the best meal ever.

Yeah...welcome to Sweetwater...I wish I could be there. Should be a great game too.

Welcome!!

:)

Hey BurkFan. I saw that last year's OC is the new HC over there.
Ya'll still running the wishbone?

How ironic would that be for Sweetwater to lose their first
game under a new coach to a team that runs the wishbone?

Wel IrishTex, with that kind of endorsement, how can we NOT eat there. Sounds great.

As far as our offense...we are running a very strange hybrid offense this year. Looked good in our two scrimmage games againt Holiday and Mineral Wells. We dont have a definitive back this year as we have had in the past...and I kinda think that is a good thing.

Defense is really solid...lots of returning starters. Good speed.

How are things with Sweetwater new head coach?

We're looking pretty good. Throwing the ball well, which is new for
us. There were four INTs thrown in the Vernon scrimmage last week.
Hopefully that doesn't become a habit.

Speaking of your defense. I just hope we can keep that DT/DE(?) that
bench presses houses contained.

Slaughter to make Mustang debut vs. Bulldogs
Written by Ron Howell
Thursday, 27 August 2009

Though he has officially been Sweetwater’s head coach for a little over six months, Friday’s 7:30 p.m. season opener against Burkburnett at the TSTC Sammy Baugh Classic marks the actual Mustang debut for Craig Slaughter.
But if he’s feeling any pressure to continue the great success of his recent coaching predecessors, Slaughter is downplaying it.
“For me, the excitement (factor) is way ahead of the nervousness aspect,” he said Wednesday. “But I’d love to get off to a good start.”
So would the Mustangs, who began last season with a 10-6 loss to Burkburnett at the Times Record News Kickoff Classic in Wichita Falls before going on an eight-game winning streak and finishing the year at 10-3.
Slaughter hopes Sweetwater has better luck on its home turf against the Bulldogs, who also hired a new coach — Scott Boswell — after the sudden resignation of Bill Dalke last month. Burkburnett finished at 9-2 a year ago and is expected to be a strong team again. The Bulldogs are one of several tough foes on the Mustangs’ pre-district schedule, which also includes Clyde — Slaughter’s previous stop — plus Big Spring, Monahans and Seminole.
“I know our kids are excited about playing at home,” Slaughter said. “The fact that it’s the Sammy Baugh Classic makes it even better. But they’re a very good team. They’ve been ranked in the top 25 in a couple of polls. We’ll have to play well to win.”
