Bellville @ Caldwell
The Brahmas go on the road vs the Hornets in the season opener. The Hornets return a powerful offense with two All District rbs. They want revenge for their loss last season and despite a strong D, Bellville gets upset. Caldwell by a td.

Yoakum @ Columbus. The Bulldogs will be too strong for the young Cardinals.
Yoakum by 21

La Grange @ Lockhart. The Leps gave the game to the Lions last year on 6 turnovers. This year their rapid strike capability, experience and an improved defense spell trouble for Lockhart.
La Grange by 21

Sealy @ Houston 2nd Baptist. The Tigers are going to be even better this year and the 2nd Baptist will be 2nd again.
Sealy by 10

Smithville v Lexington. The Tigers again field a determined and scappy team on a mission to rehabilitate their reputation as a winning program. The Eagles will fall again.
Smithville by 21

Giddings @ Liberty Hill
If the Buffs hold onto the football they will win being the last man standing in a slug fest.
Giddings by a td.

Two match ups here are very interesting. In the Bellville v Caldwell game it may come down to which team plays with the greatest intensity. If the Brahma defense gets it going and holds Caldwell to under 21 points their offense should take care of the rest. If it turns into an offensive battle the ground control game of the Hornets will set the pace and the Bulls will have problems. Defense will determine the winner here.

In the Giddings @ Liberty Hill game the Buffs have all the experience and should play with confidence for the win. However the Panthers have great coaching and a tradition of getting it done. Also, they have gone 14-16 games each season over the past 4 years so the seniors have had more practice and game time than most teams in their region. This may explain why they have been able to reload so fast from year to year. This game will be close and both teams will put up the points. A fumble or blocked kick could be the difference.

Yoakum by 21???

As a district rival of Yoakum, I know how good they may be this year...but winning by 3 TDs on the road with a new coach and a new system?

If Yoakum is that good we're in for a serious battle just to sniff the playoffs.

I have to agree with COWBOY. New Coach and system. It'll take a while to get into the groove. Maybe by district they'll have everything worked out?

You never know what you will find at Second Baptist. Not only are they not constrained by attendance zones, but when we (Sealy) played them in the past they were like that guy from Baylor that Jerry Clower ran into, real dirty.

Well you were spot on on the Second Baptist v Sealy game. With all the pre-game hype on the TU commit Conner Woods, the build up ignored
the young Tigers from Sealy. Those in attendance now know a different picture of this one. The Tigers made the trip and weathered the storms and hype. They demonstrated a control over this one like have not seen in Sealy since the TJ Mills years of glory, with four back to back. Other that a few youthful over reactions resulting in mistakes and big gains, the Tigers dominated every aspect of this one. The focus was never on the future TU Woods, although he threw almost 50 passes. The game was all Tigers, all the time. Balance, focus, determination and domination in every phase of the game. Defense kept Conner on his back or scrambling for his life till he exited in the fourth. Secondary had some lapses but were aggressive as a unit. The offense seemed to be a new page in Tiger-Ball. Wide opened as advertised. With the expected brilliance of Downey's running and the Junior QB Barrett utilizing a number of different targets to throw to and with Hamner and Miller keeping the Eagles on their heels with very successful evenings, the balance made the runs unpredictable and hugely successful. One Eagle fan lamented as we walked to our cars, "real glad we are not in what ever district you are in, if you are picked to finish fourth !"
