I just had a thought when you asked that question. Unfortunately, a lot of people sort of misunderstand veterans..and movies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLMOSlzejjg) don't help sometimes. I was proud to serve my country, and I really found the military interesting. It provided me a way to learn aside from college at that point.

I was in that field also for the US Air Force. I think everyone should spend a couple of years service, it would make them grow up.

US Army (June 1989-March 2001)

Deployed with 978th MP Co an RDF Unit on my worldwide tour! Those were some of the toughest deployments I have ever made!

Honduras/Nicaugra -not a bad deployment drank lots of hot pabst blue ribbon beer on that one! (1989-1990)
Desert Shield/Storm (also throw in an African safari to Johannasburg for a quick three day top secret mission during the middle of that war! The entire middle east region sucks! (1991-1992)
Somalia -a true craphole of a country! (1992)
Panama-beautiful country awesome deployment! (1992-1993)
Germany/Brussells/Italy-did a quick little 90 stint across Europe! It was awesome for a change! (1993)
Kuwait-better than most countries in that part of the world, but still sucked!(1994-1995)
Panama-didn't have quite as good a time this time around since we were handing everything back over to the Panamanians! (1995-1996)

Korea-nastiest country on earth besides Somalia! You could smell the stench in the air as soon as you got off the plane! However, loved me sum Korean food! Kimchee!!! (1996-1997)

Fort Meade, MD-tons of stuff to do in the capital area, but the duty assignment there sucked, maybe because it was garrison duty and I hated the spit shined dog and pony show routine of all the Washington sucks ups and brass! It was because of this duty assignment that I decided I could not take the political nonsense anymore and hung up a 12 year career in the Army! (1997-2001)

I am proud to have served my country, but if I had to do it all over again now knowing what I know now, I would never do it! It requires way too much sacrifice! For a young man who is single, maybe....But for a family man, it will wreck havoc on your family and they don't deserve that! So, next time you see a veteran, thank them and their families for the sacrifice and selfless service to their country, because freedom does not come free!

Peace through superior fire power!

I shoulda told you this morning....

The Army Dream Sheet is an exercise in futility...

In other words, the Army will send you anywhere EXCEPT where you want to go.
For example, I volunteered for Viet Nam...the Army sent me to Kansas..

It all worked out.

You know it! After college I listed everything but Armor; guess where I ended up. It wasn't bad, got to shoost the big guns. Qualified on the M60, M60A3 and the M1 tanks before I was done. Don't regret a moment of my time in the Army............Well there was this one time in Korea but we won't talk about that here. :D

I kid about the Army, but truth be known, it was the best thing that I ever did.

It gave me a chance to grow up..and I didn't know it at the time, but the Army took care of me.

I'll always appreciate that.

http://picsbyclayton.com/Links_Buttons/signal_flags.jpg You got it amigo.

As far as your post further down the page about the dream sheet. Yes...complete illusion...all smoke and mirrors. I put down places like Ft. Hood, Germany, Ft. Sam, Alaska, Hawaii....

.....and I got Korea, Bragg & Korea part two....and that was back when we were pretty much at peace.....

With what's going on in the world today......a dream sheet is absolutely hollow and meaningless. No matter WHERE you go these days...you can bet a rotation to Iraq and/or Afghanistan is in your not so distant future. Bank on it.
