La Grange plays 4a Lockhart. They went to the playoffs last year 8-3 and are picked to finish second in their district. They apparently have changed to a spread offense this season. They have an All State rb that may be a problem for the leps if he gets into the secondary. The Leps travel for this game.

The Leps have a poor record this decade losing most of their first games. In fact the only first game they have won since 2000 was against Lockhart in 2006 in Lockhart. Turnovers are what killed the Leps in most of these games. It would be fair to note that they played well against 4a Champion Bay City in 2000 and 2001 and simply lost to the better team in those years. Let's hope they hold onto the football and win one again in Lockhart.

Cuero plays 4A Beeville@ Beeville. Cuero won last year 46-14. Eric Soza last year's QB is gone as is his father . Coach Soza took the AD at 4A Alice. The new coach for Beeville was the headcoach at 4A Lockhart last year. It's going to be interesting to see what he will do with Trojans.

Columbus plays Yoakum in Columbus to open up the 2009 season. The Bulldogs return a lot of talent and should have a very successful season. It will be a good test to see how good the Cardinals are, especially with them not having the size and experience they had last year. They have great team speed but size on both sides of the ball could be a weakness

Much of the same, without the passing game though. Coach Moses has been receiving a lot of praise around the community. Too bad his first game coaching the orange has to be against Cuero.

Any size to Beeville this year? Looks like the Gobblers will be a little smaller than we're use to, but they are quicker.

None of note. We'll rely on quickness as well.

Paris starts with Sulphur Springs, the 4A defending champion. It will be a good test to see where we stand. I don't expect to beat them, but hope we can make a good showing.

Liberty Eylau v North Lamar, usually a good game, but with what I have seen from LE thus far this could be a blow-out. Size, speed and experience. This team could go deep in playoffs. Gilmer - LE gonna be true test though.

Navasota plays Henderson at Lufkin's Abe Martin Stadium, Thursday August 27th. 4A Henderson had a poor showing last year.....after nearly shocking the highly ranked 3A Rattlers. I hope this one is as exciting as last year's game, but in all reality I expect that the Rattler defense will make itself known while the offense is finding it's rhythm after losing five starters to the college ranks.
