How did it go?

Looked good. We busted a few big plays (one
went for a 40+ yard TD) . But we looked slow on
offense like we never have before. I hope that
Improves during the Vernon scrimmage and
before we play Burk.

Stats will probably be in tomorrow's paper. If the
stats don't appear in the on-line addition I will
post them here. I took several random pics at
the scrimmage. Some good some bad. Lol. I
haven't figured out how to size them when I
send them from my phone to the PC and then
post them. If somebody wants to post them for
me on this thread, PM me your e-mail address
and I will send them to you.

FYI. Only a few of them are of the action on the
field. I took more of the renovations. I wanted
to take one right down the line of scrimmage,
but our 8 ft. tall sports writer kept getting in
the way.

1st scrimmage has highs, lows

After watching his players under game-type conditions for the first time Saturday at Mustang Bowl, new Sweet-water High School coach Craig Slaughter is hoping to see better results when the Mustangs open the regular season here in less than two weeks against Burkburnett.
The team’s opening scrim-mage against Midland Christian at the newly renovated Bowl was not without some high points, however, as Sweetwater scored on its fourth play from scrimmage and came up with some big plays as well defensively in the skirmish, where each team scored a touchdown.
Still, Slaughter — who came here in March to re-place Kent Jackson after three years as Clyde’s head coach — admitted there is plenty of room for improvement from his squad.
“Defensively, I thought we gave up too many yards,” he said. “But I thought it was a typical first scrimmage. At times I thought our guys looked really good. We made a lot of mistakes on our alignment, but that will get better.”
Both No. 1 units scored on their first 15-play series.
Despite a fumbled snap and a pass interception by Sweetwater’s Ken Norman during its first seven plays, Midland Christian eventually scored on a 1-yard run. The visiting Mustangs also drove to Sweetwater’s 6 on their final series before a pass interception ended the threat.
Sweetwater was able to cash in quickly after getting the ball as Jason Vause tallied on a 49-yard catch and run on a ball delivered by Jake Lawrence, who shared quarterbacking duties with Kris Mayes on both units.
Lawrence also had runs of 41 and 30 yards with the No. 2 unit and was Sweet-water’s top rusher, gaining 75 yards on three carries. He and Mayes were a com-bined 7-of-14 passing for 127 yards. Mayes also ran for 17 yards on four carries and B.J. Walker had 20 on five carries. The other quarterback, T.J. Jones, was 1-of-3 for 18 yards. Norman and Cameron Fox each had two catches for 25 and 30 yards, respectively, while Bo Bugarin, Zach Wetsel and Tanner Crain also had pass receptions for Sweetwater during the late-morning scrimmage.
Sweetwater plays its final scrimmage Friday when it goes to Vernon before facing Burkburnett Aug. 28 at the Sammy Baugh Classic.

Is Bo Bugarin the same or a different Bugarin from a couple of years ago?
Sorry, I just can't remember.

Last I heard the bugarin you are asking about is at Texas tech. The bugarin playing this season is his younger brother, Bo
