Dayton is a solid 4A team no doubt but nothing like last year. And last year I saw at least five teams who could beat them in Division II....

it literally amazed me how bad they were on D

Didn't Dayton play in the DII state final?
I'll bet a lot of teams wish they were that bad.

it literally amazed me how bad they were on D Maybe not as good as last year but not far from it. That new QB was dang good and they certainly haven't lost any speed or size.

Dayton did play in the state final but lets look at that road they went through....probably the worst Region 3 field ever.....Region 4 in D2 was also pretty bad....

I saw Dayton in person once and watched two other games on film and last year in Division II I would have taken Sulphur Springs (obvious), Rockwall-Heath, Denison, Everman, Ennis and Stpehenville over them. Hell Sulphur could have scored 80 on Dayton if they needed to in that championship game.

Dayton was a good team but benefitted greatly from a weak bottom part of the bracket. That being said I think they'll be a solid team again but not quite what they were last year...IMO Angleton and Brenham are the teams to beat in Reg 3 D2

I have to agree with you Matt. No one knows if they are a title contender at this point or not. All I know is they lost their 2 best players from last year, Green and Dugat. They do have a few guys back from last years defense and they look to be better there (which they needed to be). They have a nose guard who may be the best I've seen. He is a monster! It's exciting to do so well against a 4A team that went to the state title game last year, but it needs to be kept in perspective. We don't really know, yet, how good they are. However, it's much better and more impressive than doing that against a 2A team that didn't even make the playoffs last year.

One more thing, 87, I think you are getting a few to many updates from the "homer of all homers"... LOL:p . Dayton scored against our, potential, number 1 defense. I'm sure you were told by Mr homer that they were JV because of the white hats. That only means that they are underclassmen who have not yet earned their Silver, but that will be your defense (with a little tweaking). The bright spot is that they got better every series and did show some good potential. Dayton will be a good team no matter what and though they may not be a state contender, they are definitely a district title contender in 4A and a lock for the playoffs.

Matt, you're right about the Dayton defense. They couldn't stop Sulphur Springs last year. For what it's worth, it should be noted that last season Dayton lost several players just before they played their first game. Most of the banned kids were going to be starters on their defense. They were kicked off the team for a very serious disciplinary reason. Their defense would have been noticably better and they might have made it a little further in last year's playoffs. The defense WO-S saw Saturday night was closer to what Dayton would have shown last year. Just FYI...

I am well aware of the issues in Dayton with all that, but bottom line was the defense last year was mediocre at best.

Sad part is on D Dayton will be great this year but the O lost a LOT

No doubt they did, but, being around the game as long as we have, you need to keep in mind that Dayton has reached a minimum of semi-finals for the last 3 years. We both know that these runs tend to go in streaks so it is very possible that they could reach the same round again, even with the offensive re-load.

true but this year Angleton smells of making a deep run...Brenham is scary as well as they were freakishly young last year

I saw the replay of the Central/Angleton game last year. I'm not sold on them. Brenham was young, I could see them meeting Dayton again this year.

Word out of Brenham, a great sophomore class is taking starting jobs away from some of last year's returning starters. I heard about 6-7 sophs will start for the Cubs.
