I was just reading one of 3Afan2K3 posts and it got me wondering...how did everyone come up with their user name?? I don't think I have to explain mine, it's rather self-explanatory, as many are. But, there are a few out there that I am not seeing a connection to anything!

My user Name OLD Green because I'm old (49) and the Gobblers are Kelly Green. We started the tradition.

Chief Woodman
08-12-2003, 09:21 PM
The first 4 letters of my last name is Wood and I am a man, therefore woodman. The Chief is because I am a Battalion Chief for a Texas Fire Department.

Grill Sergeant
08-12-2003, 09:56 PM
I chose my name because I'm a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force (just back from a 4 month tour in the middle east), and I'd like to think I've mastered a few entrees on the BBQ grill (not as a result of my tour, of course). You can call me Sarge for short if you want. However, I've been called many things in my life and have learned to answer to most of them. So, feel free to call me what you want. By the way, this is my first response to any post, and I've yet to post a new topic of my own. Hello to all, and it's good to be home. Also, Woodman, I admire what you do as a battalion chief. High school football is almost here! Hallelujah!

Grill sgt- thank you for what you do for all of us. Funny thing how it is a small world. I guess you are stationed at Barksdale. My 96 year old grandma lives in Coushatta LA, about 50 miles to your south. I fly there in a cessna on occasion, would be glad to swing by and meet you.

Thanks Ranger Mom and Chief Woodman for the good comments! But, I'm no more American than you or anyone else who loves our country and supports our military. I'm just another guy in the mix of life trying to do his best to survive. Enough said on that! Chief, my door is open if you decide to drop in. And you're right, I'm stationed at Barksdale.

Sinton66, I support Newton for the most part. That's where I grew up. But, I'm not partial to them at all times. I cheer for any team that displays the heart of a winner. Dang, that sounds too politically correct! Let me rephrase that. I like underdog teams and teams that kick butt! Does that cover everyone? I guess what I really support is 3A football. I don't know if that really answers your question other than I'll cheer for Newton as long as they're in the hunt. The good news for me is that Newton will probably never have to lose to Sinton in the playoffs.

spaniard
08-12-2003, 11:36 PM
i got spaniard bc i used to call people that when i was in high school just for the heck of it, so i got called that in return. it was also the quickest name i could come up with without going cliche-ish and using my hometown in it. so um, yeah, thats about it.

I am bulldog65 because that was my son's number playing for Everman, however, now that he is playing for Tarleton I may have to change it to "Texan**" as soon as he is issued a number!

exbccards76'smom

Mine is simple to explain, too. When my son played for Bridge City, his number was 76. So, while he was in school, I was bccards76'smom. When he graduated, I changed it to exbccards76'smom. My thanks also go out to grill sargeant. I appreciate what you have done for our country. :D

Mine comes from my college days. I lived in a dorm called Spivey Hall. All of us who lived there participated in lots of intramural sports together. We called ourselves the "Spivey Rats" and I suppose it sort of became our mascot. It's an academic dormitory now and I doubt most of us that used to live there would even qualify now. hehe.

Showtime33
08-13-2003, 07:07 AM
Came up with mine because I have always been a huge Laker fan so I went with the Showtime name because that was the time where I started watching the Lakers play, during Magic and Kareem and the Showtime era. The number 33 was my basketball number.

BIG19
08-13-2003, 07:31 AM
19 is my favorite number. Besides BIG19 was a name that was pinned to me when I was stationed in Hawaii at Hickam AFB.

cunbed10 (see you in bed #10)I attended Aldine MacArthur high in houston, where my basketball number was 10. I moved back to Marlin my senior year 1986-1987, and my number was 10 also, well in the summer of 1988 I was in the Persian Gulf, aboard the USS LaSalle AGF-3, my girlfriend would write from Marlin and the letters would have c-u-n-bed #10, so RangerMom that's how I got my user name. And for my 400th post--my user name was the first thing I could think of. pirate (school mascot) and we (Sinton) were in the hunt for a state title. (baseball) Nothing fancy.

Mine is boring its my first initial last name. I actaully wanted a different user name, but when I Signed in to this board back in the begining ( Member #48) there wasn't much going on so I kept this name. Now this board is a monster and I dont want to start all over collecting post, so I will continue using RBARKER.

Well I actually created the name for my husband who I thought might like to post in here. He rarely ever does.
I lurk alot and on the rare occassion that I post, I post under the name I created for him.

He uses Renegade on all of his internet user names. He's from the 80's so he got it from the old stix song "Renegade". And Dawg... well that is for Clyde bulldogs.

BH for Barbers Hill. Though many have thought the 146 was for the highway which passes through Mont Belvieu and by my house, it actually represents the number of the classroom in which I taught at the time I registered. (I actually began as BH146 but I went several days once where I could not login. So, it was suggested that I create a new user name.)

slpybear the bullfan
08-13-2003, 06:04 PM
Okay, I always wondered when this would come up.

Slpybear is just a shortened version of my nickname... sleepy bear.

The nickname has a good story behind it. I used to be involved reaaalllly heavy into Civil War Reenacting. Back in 1995 I was up at a reenactment at Franklin Tennessee. The group of Texas Reenactors I was with was spending the weekend going "Hard Core" i.e. spend the weekend like the soldiers back then would have. Everything you had for the three days you carried on your back. Saturday night we stayed in some trenches and it got down to 19°F that morning. Just before we all crashed I was standing around chatting by a big campfire. I was wearing a big, long coat and wearing a nightcap to keep my head warm. One of my friends pointed at me and said, "Man, you look just like that big sleepy bear on the Travelodge Sign just off 35 in Temple!"

The name stuck like glue. I've been Sleepy Bear ever since to my friends. Of course, on my ISP I only get 8 characters... so... slpybear.

I believe those are called Thunder Sticks and I hate 'em. They look cool if you are across the stands watching them, like we were Sweetwater. But I cannot stand to be around a fan that is waving those things around, they get in my way! Someone said they were going to donate 2000 of them to the Rangers this year, and Thank Goodness, they haven't arrived yet. It was a nice gesture, but I hope they are "lost in the mail". That cunbed10 story is great as are the others but that one stood out to me. I am glad that they are married and things are working out so good for them. I got my name because back in the 70s when car radio CBs (I think that is what they were called) were used by people to chat with other people when they were on the road. It was a fad. My best friend used the name The Creeper. When I started on one of the newspaper forums since he is up north I decided to use Creeper in my name but I didn't want to take his name. My first name is Bill and I didn't want to use my real first name so I chose a name that kind of rhymed with it so I chose Phil. So I went by the name Phil Creeper. All other variations of it such as Phil C or PhiI C or Phillip Creeper etc. are a result of when registering for new post I didn't know how to get Phil Creeper on because they would tell me I couldn't use it on that address for this computer, etc. In other words I had variations due to my computer ignorance on how to register and understand what they were telling me. So that is why there are various names of Phil Creeper. Even though I didn't use my real first name Bill it has become the worse kept secret in Sinton who Phil C and other variations of it is. Nearly everyone in town knows who I am and many times I go to Sinton Pirate and Sinton Lady Pirate events many times I either wear my Spurs cap or blue USA cap.

Back in high school I got wasted at a pasture party, wandered off to do my business in private, and ended up stuck in a cattle guard. Very simple. Crunk because I'm a "crunk" person. Tarpon because I graduated from Port Isabel High School and am now a Tarpon fan. Once a Tarpon, always a Tarpon. Twenty-one because that's my favorite number and that was my jersey number when I played ball. Peace up, A-Town down.
