Estacado was the 1st and one of only two programs to win a UIL Football State Championship in their initial varsity season. Estacado went undefeated in 1968 whereas Beaumont West Brook didn't in 1982 when they won the 5A State Title.

I'm filling in all of the missing results as we speak and they should all be posted in the next hour

State championship in first ever year. Impressive. Sweetwater was the only team to hold them to single digits the whole year.

Not only did they go 14-0 their first season... they went 10-0 to start their second season... Brownwood was the first team to ever beat them and that was in their second playoff season. They throttled Brownwood in 68, I bet Gordon Wood was embarrassed and decided that wouldn't happen again. Look at their playoff results in 69, 70, 71. We were also the first team to put 30+ points on them... that wasn't until their 3rd season in the playoffs.

That's pretty impressive for Estacado.

ALL missing game results should now be filled in... there are still quite a few discrepancies between what I've found reported in various media outlets and what is on record officially with the UIL but the overall win-loss total is consistent across the board.

Despite having a horrendous record earlier this decade Estacado appears to be making a resurgence and they still maintain an all-time winning percentage above 60% which is actually quite rare if you peruse the histories.

Having 11 consecutive losing seasons from 1998-2008 including a 33 game losing streak in the midst of that AND still maintaining a 60% winning percentage says A LOT for how well the program was in the earlier days.

In 1997 Estacado was 167 games above 0.500 and as of the end of 2008 they are still 100 games above 0.500

Wow... at one point they had an all time winning % about 75%.

That's nuts. I wonder why they've fallen off recently.

They were really salty back in the day.

declining enrollment mainly, Estacado's seen the phenomenon of white flight hit hard...what used to be a pretty diverse school is now almost entirely a minority school

I was at that game in 1968 between Estacado and Sweetwater.

The team was predominately African American.

I still firmly believe that Sweetwater would have won state that year had it not been for Estacado beating Sweetwater 7-0 in that District game. That Sweetwater team earned the title of "Best Mustang team to have NOT won district".

Some 40 years later, coaches and players from that Lubbock Estacado team will verify that the Sweetwater game was the toughest, hardest-hitting team they had played that state championship year, hands down.

I played against Estacado in the 70s, and saw I guess every game Sweetwater played against them before and since. Diverse wouldn’t be a word I would have ever used, from what I saw and experienced.
A lot of Estacado's success was due to the head coach that was there for about 40 years. Louis ???? I can’t remember his last name off hand. He was a fine man and an excellent coach.

My boss was the MLB on that '68 team. Trust
me when I say he remembers the Estacado
game like it was yesterday.

Just to clarify, Sweetwater and Estacado were
in the same district. Back in that era only one
team went to the playoffs.

Can you imagine if it was still like that? Lol

Yep, when I played we were in the same district with:
Lubbock Estacado
Lubbock Dunbar
San Angelo Lakeview
Graham
Snyder
Lamesa
Brownfield
Lakeview, Estacado, and Graham usually fought it out for the district title. Seems like Lakeview was the biggest stud most years when I was playing. But Estacado was always the most feared. They always had the best athletes and the most speed.

Jimmie Keeling was the HC of the 1968 Eastacado team that won state and although they were majority black they had diversity....I am guessing over time that changed because Estacado as a school has virtually no white students now

Good story 328. Too bad Sweetwater had to be
one of their stepping stones on the way to the
SC. Lol

Would the other be Bmt. Westbrook?
