Natural grass for Cowboys Stadium
10:58 PM CDT on Tuesday, July 21, 2009
By MARK JOHNSON / The Dallas Morning News
Last Sunday's CONCACAF Gold Cup doubleheader in Arlington was played on the Cowboys Stadium artificial surface. But the new stadium is converting to natural grass for next Sunday's match between Chelsea of England and Club America of Mexico.
Tri-Tex Grass this week is scheduled to install 85,000 square feet of Tifway 419 Bermuda grass, grown at a nursery in Tiago, Texas.
Sunday's 6 p.m game is part of the World Football Challenge, a round-robin tournament that also includes Inter Milan and AC Milan of Italy. Tickets are $30 to $125 and are available through Ticketmaster.
On Saturday, Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti and two players will take part in a question-and-answer session at Trinity Hall, located in Mockingbird Stadium. The free event is scheduled for 4 to 5 p.m.
