View Full Version : Question for Gary, Reggie, or that guy who wore number 80

I know all three of you guys did real well in High School, and then in College. I was just wondering something.

What would have been your response to the following scenario.

The Dean calls the three of you in and asks you to take a seat. He then begins.....

"Gentlemen, We have a crisis here at the University, and I'm calling on you for help. As you know we have several under-achievers in our midst who can't seem to do better than a D in their classes. Heck boys, some of these kids can't even do that."

"Anyway, here's where you boys come in. I propose that in order to make the University stronger, we change your A's to C's and then give your left over averages to the kids with D's and F's so we can be stronger as a group."

"Now I know what you're thinking. You're afraid that you will no longer stand out in the crowd, and when you graduate, the workforce will not be able to pick you out from the flock, and I understand. But in order to set your minds at ease, we here at the University are well aware of your success, and will be happy to offer you jobs on the faculty"

"Anyway, think it over boys and let me know as soon as possible. Our school is in a crisis, and we need your help."

If this were an actual debate you would be laughed at. I have heard this "scenario" before, and you can't compare real life and providing people with the means to provide the basic means of survival with scholastic achievement. It is the attitude of people who think this is a convincing argument and a valid comparison that show how inept these people are and how patently absurd the general views these people maintain on government policies really are. With that being said, laugh it up at how clever you think you are, while I sit back and laugh at what level of intelligence I think you are on for thinking this was a great idea to post.

Just taking a stab in the dark here, but I think this is the beginning of an argument about universal health care. My only comment:

You get what you pay for so buyer beware.

I really expected an intelligent answer to the question from BBDE, not some moronic slam against me for asking the question.

Rockdale80 at least answered the question, even if he isn't being honest.

Maybe Reggie will be the mature one in the group and won't let me down.

What is moronic about it? Because I don't answer your smartass question to your liking? Because I said what is true and you can't just accept the fact that I was right and you can't come back with an argument that is logical, valid in content, and one that can actually refute what I say? I don't mind a good debate by any means, but I'm not going to let your mocking encourage me to get upset or even make me waste my time providing you with the response that you desire, one of which attacks your weak attempt at satire. What I said was sufficent and purposeful for the means that I wanted.

Sorry Gary,

But I still don't see an answer there. Surely you can come up with a good response to the Dean, with your gift of speech.

Surely you can read much better than this, because you should see that I'm not going to answer that. You asked myself, Reggie, and Jesse for the sole purpose of trying to single us out and use our answer against us to try to prove your own point, whatever it may be. You and everyone else knows how this question would be answered so what purpose does it serve for me to set myself up for a fall? I can see your intentions and to be quite honest it is rather insulting for you to thing that you're going to outwit me by portaying such lack of originality or intelligence. If you want to have a debate over welfare, let's have one and get it out in the open, not hide behide weak and fallacious comparisons that sound good to idiots despite how truly irrelevant they are.

I wouldnt worry about these young bucks too much. Their all just very young, smart, and idealistic right now. As it should be by the way. Reality and wisdom will inevitably come their way sooner or later. I'm betting on sooner myself. With the rapid rise of liberal socialism now, I doubt it will take long for many of these young idealists to recognize this terrible path for what it really is. Some will even stand up and lead a revolution back to more conservative ways. In 20 or so years, they'll look back and barley even recognize themselves. ;)

Actually, I wasn't trying to single you Jesse or Reggie out at all. You were just the first three that came to mind whenever I dreamed up the thread. I figured with as clever as you've been on this board over the past five or six years that you would have a witty response to the scenario. Guess I was wrong in assuming that. Maybe I should have used Jason, Ruben, and Mark instead.

I can see right through that and so does Jesse, but I can't speak for Reggie.

Stang Red, sorry to burst your bubble, but having Bush in office for 8 years makes it hard to be idealistic. Don't mistake age for having wisdom or knowledge. I for one know why I believe what I do and can make solid arguments that are truthful and valid. I would be willing to bet that there aren't many posters on here who are smarter or more knowledgeable about politics as I am. That's not me being arrogant, but I know what I am and what I'm not. I truly do hope that someday I can lead this country back down the right path, but I assure you I will never pursue one that follows Republican economic policies.

I'm done with this discussion. Respond if you would like, I could personally give a care less.

You didnt burst my bubble at all. In fact I privately predicted your response to be almost exactley as it was. By the way, I wont defend Bush and his bunch on their economic policies. And I must say, I barely even identify with what the Republican party has become, so I wont defend them either. But if you think those were bad policies, just wait till you get a good dose of what is headed our way now.
I'll never understand why people use bad policies as a defense argument against even more bad policies. Bad is bad no matter how you slice it. Just because policies are drastically different, doesn’t mean one is good, and one is bad. Nothing is getting fixed right now. It is just all getting screwed up twice as bad, twice as fast. I can only hope enough smart people will see it for what it is soon, and maybe right the ship before it sinks completely. Frankly I don’t see many in the political arena right now that I have much confidence in. I honestly believe we will have to see a viable 3rd party emerge, before we see a lot of change for the good.

I agree that both parties have done their fair share of messing things up, but based on your statement you are still blaming the democrats for making it worse and that simply isnt true...well as of yet anyway. It is possible the changes they have made will fail, but nothing substantial has changed to incur this ridiculous idea of socialism. It is like when Obama was going to come to your house and take your guns even though nothing has changed regarding gun rights. The fear tactics just arent as effective as they once were. If you want people to step back and read into your argument I suggest trying to make a logical statement based on fact. The majority of these people that say the sky is falling sat around for 8 years and defended the guy prior and 6 months into this presidency are screaming that everything is his fault. It doesnt add up.

No different than the Dems who scream that Republicans are trying to create a dictatorship, take over the world and trying to "eliminate" the poor and are involved in vast conspiracies and secret groups

Both sides have that extreme MINORITY that seem to scream the loudest and seem to be the ones that are pushed in front of the media

If there are 100 students in the class and 5 of them have A's 25 have B's 50 have C's and 20 have D's and F's, and the A's and B's give up their grades for C's, and there are five B's left over, who should get them?

It is funny u bring up thewhole scenario in a grade way since with the bell curve your basically keeping everyone close to gather letter grade wise and your "lowering" the test standards by adjusting(usually) lower what a A,B,C and so on are relative to actual number score

Hey Booger here's a question for you.

If there are 100 students in the class and 5 of them have A's 25 have B's 50 have C's and 20 have D's and F's, and the A's and B's give up their grades for C's, and there are five B's left over, who should get them? well, those 5 B's would likely be moved over the next class who has students who really only want D's, thus those B's will go further in a classroom with accepted mediocrity.

This is a baited question and regardless of the answer it will be turned into a political discussion on something that DOES NOT EXIST!

I know you don't love socialism, my friend. Even if it was a baited question I know you could defend your point of view.
