of the 1976 State Track meet when Johnny "Lam" Jones came from behind to win the mile relay and the state title for Lampasas I'd love to watch that...

I didn't know he was dying of bone cancer. Man that's sad.

It was either '87 or '88. Sweetwater was playing Monahans at
the bowl in a District 4-4A matchup. There was one play I will
never forget. Monahans had a stud RB named Charles Thompson
and we had a stud RB/FS named Kenneth Norman. Monahans
had the ball at their own five yard line. Thompson busted one
right up the middle and Norman was out of position. Norman
recovered and chased Thompson down the middle of the field
for ninety yards and caught him at our five. Sweetwater held on
fourth and goal and went on to win the game.

You'll see some guys chase a guy just to make it look like at least
they are showing effort. But Kenneth chased him to catch him and
Thompson had a 10 yard lead at their twenty. That is the best
individual hustle play I have ever seen.

Anyway I would love to have a video of that game. Just so I could
watch that play again.

Imagine having "Ham" and "Lam" on the same team.

Ham = Hamlin Texas
Lam = Lampasas Texas

That reminds me...

I once saw "Ham" Jones at a track meet in Sweetwater one year while he was still in high school. I had the opportunity to be right next to his lane and watch the race.

As he was coming down the track..he of course was out front..and as i saw him get closer and closer to me and the finish line, I remember seeing his thighs just explode every time he placed his foot down....it was something to see.

Saw lam jones in brownwood in 76 at the bluebonnet relays. Was standing next to the track and I swear you could not hear his feet hit the ground. Smoothest most relaxed pure runner I ever saw.
