As a mother of a daughter, I found that very offensive.

I know from your posts that you have one (daughter) too...scares me to death to talk about her leaving home. I'm thinking he was just kidding though but if it comes to down to it, you're on! I'm in too if you need a hand.

Hey that was a little over the line. I raised 3 girls and they are wonderful and headaches. worth it tho. AT least the last one is a boy and I am trying to teach him to treat em like a lady. That may be more difficult a proposition than I realized. Us dads tend to take things personal about the women in our families and thats a fact.

I bet he was kidding too, but it was not funny to me at all. I have 3 daughters and a new granddaughter... once you have a girl born, those comments directed straight at a 17 year old girl seem more perverted than funny, especially when it is said to her dad!

BILLYFRED and L48, thanks men. I too have 3 daughters and man are you right. I can get more than a little protective pretty quickly when it comes to them. You guys know exactly what I mean. Luckily, I have 2 boys (20 and 15) and they take care of the "heavy lifting" these days. They pretty well keep the culls run off;)

I have two grown daughters, but it was hard on both them and me when they were in high school. When they invited a boy to dinner, I had a standard discussion:

Are you now or have you ever been married?
Do you have children?
Do you have any felonies on your record?
Are there any outstanding warrants out for your arrest?

I must admit that more than once I invited a visitor to leave and not return, ever. Even had to explain to one that even though the young man was not yet 18, I had every right to defend my home and family to the death. I explained that I intended to make 3 phone calls, one to an ambulance service, one to the police, and a sympathy call to his parents. He left.

so what you are saying is once they are 18+ it's okay for someone to make comments about your daughter? my guess would be no. :p

That's some good advice, there. I've got 2 daughters, too, and they are not old enough to date yet. Wood, L48, BillyFred, etc...

...much respect for raising one or more girls. I'm not close to kids yet, but I'm absolutely terrified already that one of them will be a girl, thus causing me to not sleep for about 15 years. Because if they're a daddy's girl, then they'll like boys like Daddy....and that ain't good.

Thank heaven for little girls? Thank heaven for the father's survival in raising them :)

This thread has certainly been hijacked but ...this is fun! When my daughter brings in a "new" boy I usually just ignore him...totally! I try to see how he will react. Once I walked in from work and my daughter and my wife are sitting on the sofa and the boy is sitting in my chair. I just stand there looking down at him and after 3 or 4 uncomfortable seconds he stands up to introduce himself. I shook his hand and told him my name and when he started to tell me his, I interrupted him saying "I really don't care what your name is because I figure you are very temporary. If you last more than a month, then you can tell me your name. I am more concerned that you didn't get out of my chair as soon as I walked into the room". The kid never came back...mission accomplished!

deny, deny, deny, and if that does not seem to work then I DENY, DENY DENY!!!

did I spell deny right? that just does not look right but spell check accepted it

 What? Don't believe me? It's called r-e-s-p-e-c-t! I don't have to say anything.....they just somehow know when I enter the room. I always sit in my recliner. That, my friend, is the way it is in my house!:p

.......just don't tell my wife I said this......okay?

Well...when my husband walks in the room and I am sitting in HIS chair and I try to get up, he immediately tells me, "don't get up, I can sit somewhere else"...which is usually MY chair, which is right beside his chair...and they are identical chairs!!:p

At our house we only have one recliner, and it's mine! The couch and loveseat both recline on both ends, so if they wanna recline they can.:p

so what you are saying is once they are 18+ it's okay for someone to make comments about your daughter? my guess would be no. :p

just food for thought

I'll take this one guys. Any woman that puts her picture in the public domain on HER choice is fair game. She did it to herself.
But when you try to take my daughter and put her in the public domain without her consent or mine draws fire. All you guys can now breathe a sigh of relief.

It's working so far...but we'll see. I also have twin 21 yr old daughters and I treated their early boyfriends the same way. It is by far better than the old "I just happen to be cleaning my gun when you showed up" routine. I can tell you many a story about raising girls and dealing with their boyfriends but I will tell just one more. One of my twins is habitually late and it just drives me crazy. When she was about 17 or so a boy came to pick her up at about 6:00 one weekend evening and sat there for 30 minutes while my beautiful daughter finished getting ready. He and I were talking and he asked me how much longer it would be and I said that I had no idea. I had been trying for years to get her to hurry up. Then I encouraged him to leave without her...he did. She really liked this boy and was never late again when he came to pick her up.

There you go, I helped the kid out. See, I am not always an ogre!

Well no. Teaching a boy to treat a woman like a lady is a learned response. The respect between men is not the same as the respect from a man to a woman. I have a lot of experience in said department and believe me it is a complicated issue. Boys just don't think relationally vis a via women. Far as that goes a lot of men don't either. It is one of those things where you just had to be there.

Fair enough, but HE brought his daughter into the conversation, so I guess that makes it okay and no one should have gotten pissed, right?

Ah but no. He spoke kindly of his daughter and that does not bring with it the right to say perverse things about her.

He said he hoped she didn't want to "play" football like the girls in this picture http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t278/immortal13_2007/redraiders.jpg since she was going to Tech, thus in my mind, opening up a door for the numerous horny & smart asses on this board to chime in! :)

Never said it was right, but with the direction the thread had taken, I really don't know what he expected to happen!

and that's all I've got to say about that.

I use to spend ton's of time telling my boys how I expected them to treat the young girls they went out with. Many, many times my boys would come home with stories about the girls acting like what we expect boys to do. (if you catch my drift). It was common knowledge in my house that if the boys let themselves follow natures calling and got into trouble that I would hold THEM 100% responsible regardless of what the girl did. I never worried about my oldest but the youngest was a regular horn-dog and I ALWAYS worried about him. He was the kind of kid that would enjoy a thread like this one. (pictures).

I'm also bored. I was simply making conversation. Both my boys are grown now and neither one made the BIG mistake so apparently it worked. I know I was buying them more often for the youngest. Of course I wouldn't put it past him to use them for water balloon fights either!

I think it is perfectly appropriate. I bought them for my sons!! Lot of good it did...they both have kids now!!!

I bought them for my flashlights too!!!

Hmmm.....

Maybe that's why they didn't get the point!!
