Hey fellas.....

Looking to replace my handgun as my wife has laid claim to my Springfield XD40 for herself.

I am looking more or less at 1911's.

Two I really have my eyes on:

*Springfield Operator
*Kimber Desert Warrior.

Both are in the same neighborhood price wise......both are excellent firearms according to friends that own both and things I've read....

Anyone on the DL have any useful input?

Thanks in advance.

I am no firearms expert by any means, but I have always wanted to own a Glock.

I dont own nor have I pulled the trigger on either of those but, I love guns and have my fair share. My personal favorite handgun is my Smith & Wesson .357 Mag. Chrome with competition sites and wood grip. Lots of stopping power.

What is that hand cannon that they like to show a rich drug lord with in a lot of the movies. It has a triangular slide, made of stainless steel or titanium, and usually has a long, red laser sight on it?

I picked one of these while in College Station. Shoots like no other 1911 I have ever owned.

Night Hawk (http://www.nighthawkcustom.com/detail.aspx?ID=2) Looks nice....but WOW...what a price tag. I've been struggling w/ spending 1100-1300 on something I KNOW is going to get much use in weather, woods and such....2300.00....I'd be scared to take it outa the gun safe, much less drag it through the woods. :D

You won't go wrong with either of the 1911's you mentioned. The Kimber will be the more durable gun in the long run and they seem to have an excellent warranty program. I would just ask to shoot both at the range and see which feels the best in the hand and go with that one. The balance and recoil will be different on each.

As mentioned, be sure and get plenty of ammo, .45 is the hardest to find right now. It is also at a premium price too. Walmart when you can find it has the best price.

Yeah tell me. I have about 400 rounds of 45 that i have been hoarding. Bought it before the price started jumping. have a few rounds of 40 cal and ten millimeter too. Currently don't have a ten mil gun. sold my delta elite for a crazy price cause I needed the money to by a car. Now need to find me another delta elite.

As far as the ammo.....luckily there are plenty of 1911 lovers in my family...I'm the one who's late to the party. I will be able to get my hands on some ammo...and better yet....the brass my bro-in-law and father shoot up. :)

I'm having a real hard time finding the Springfield.....have not had my FFL look for the Kimber yet...but am going to have him start tryin to track one of those down too.

Thanks fellas!!

Alright guys......any Para Ord owners out there? I have heard a few good things about them.....read a few more good things. I like a couple of their pistols ...i.e. the TAC-5 and the NITE-TAC.

How do they stack up to the other two?

Thanks!

Stang, you made a good choice---I guarantee that you will be pleased and have alot of satisfaction from the balance and dependability of the gun you chose.

I've got to handle a Kimber or two, but have never shot one. But based on what I've read, input from friends that have them, etc. I expect your accessment is spot on as well. :)

Thanks

Kimber's a good choice. Here's another.

A friend got one of these and loves it. He also has Gold Cup Colt.
