Giddings 2, Final
AUSTIN -- Crispin Stanley pitched a complete game as Carthage defeated Giddings 5-2 to win their third UIL state baseball championship.
Stanley, named championship game MVP, scattered six hits and
struck out two while earning his ninth win of the season. Carthage
trailed 2-1 after four innings but rallied with four runs on four
hits and two walks in the fifth.
Dustin Russell, Cameron Stanley, Bryce Boone and Matt Bagley
each had an RBI hit in the fifth inning. Cameron Stanley's triple
off the wall was the game tying hit. Bagley finished with two hits
for Carthage.
Giddings (28-6-1) was led by Rush Plumlee and Ethan Kmoch with
two hits each. It was the first state appearance for the Buffaloes.
Carthage (28-6-1) won the class 4A title in 1990 and won a 3A
crown in 2005. The bulldogs also won the Class 3A Division 2 state
football championship beating Celina 49-37 in December.
