This is what appeared in the Forney Messenger on Thursday...WOW!
--------------------------

Fourth and Long,
It ’s Time to Punt!
Forney High School football has a history of great games, great seasons and great athletes. Every year Forney is expected to excel in all sports. Not only does the town expect it,so do our opponents. With a great tradition like this,Forney fans have the opportunity to see some of the finest Friday night football in the country. This season, like last season, every fan was hoping to finally get a State Championship. This year in fact, not only did Forney fans know we had a great team,so did all of the sport voters.Forney was ranked number one for the entire season. At this time I would like to thank each and every player who wore
the black and gold throughout the season. The pride and sportsmanship that you exhibited, the great blocks, the great runs and the great team defense brought the team honor and it
keeps the tradition true for Jackrabbit Football. The State Championship dream this year was not lost due to a fumble,a bad snap,or another team being more talented. It was lost as a direct result of poor coaching.Since Mel Maxfield has been the Athletic Director and
Head Coach,he has been able to put together an incredible record.I can assure you that this record is due to the talent of the athletes.I have watched him on the sideline for several years. It is obvious from the stands that our athletes are far more talented than most in our
area. But when it comes to getting our players prepared for a close game,he lacks the ability as a leader and a coach to get the job done.He was given an opportunity that most coaches
dream of,DaBryan Blanton,an All State running back and one of the top fifty recruited players in the nation. The talent does not stop there.Bryson Brown,a running back that would be a standout for any other school,a quarterback duo with great arms and agility, linemen with speed and size, receivers that have speed and great hands, and a college-
quality kicker. With all of this offensive talent plus a solid defense, you would think Coach Maxfield could at least get further in the playoffs,if not a State Championship. As a spectator and a fan,Mel Maxfield is solely to blame for the loss against Everman. His inability to open up the offense and to call plays that were not one dimensional, cost us the
game. With this remedial offensive playbook,Everman was able to put 10 players within five yards of the line of scrimmage.Given the speed and ability of our quarterbacks and receivers we should have had a balanced attack that would have kept any team off guard.
But Everman knew, and anybody who has watched Coach Maxfield knew –Forney wasn't going to pass the ball (until it was too late)so all they had to do was stop the running game. Blanton right outside,Blanton right inside, left outside, left inside,Brown up the middle!
That's Forney's entire playbook!Maxfield's clock management was poor, but that is going to be a given for Mel Maxfield, because he lacks the ability to call a play in time for the
offense to execute it before a delay of game.My hat is off to the Defensive Coordinator Rush.He was able to prepare the Rabbits defense for an extremely quick offensive team.
Through his leadership, our defense was able to contain their offense and give Forney one final drive. All our players gave a hundred and ten percent, but with the simplicity of our offensive schemes and poor play calling it was just a matter of time before our season would
end. This is not to question Coach Maxfield's honesty, integrity,or good intentions.
Everyone who plays sports, plays to WIN.Granted, there is more to football or any sport than just winning the game, but there are coaches out there who not only have character BUT ALSO have the coaching skills to make use of their talented players. He has a winning
record due to the raw talent Forney has produced, but because of Mel Maxfield's inability as an Athletic Director and Head Coach to produce a State Championship with the largest collection of talent in Forney's history, and his unwillingness or inability to adapt to change,
it is time to find new leadership.

Thank you,
Michael Cates

rholl--somtimes "colorful metaphors" (heard that in a Star Trek movie) are called for.
I think jackass is very appropriate.

That is the biggest crock of horse poo I've ever heard. This guy doesn't have a clue. He has never played varsity ball for Forney and sure as hell hasn't played for Max. I say we all give the ass a call and tell him to stick his opinion up is you know what.
