I've always heard that there are flocks of wild parrots in the Valley? Is that true? What other tropical animals, plants, and other things are found in South Texas? Jaguars?:D

Anybody ever visted the C.A.F. home airfield in Harlingen?

Yes there are flocks of wild parrots flying around the Valley. They mostly fly around early in the mornings and they make alot of noise. Some of them live in holes in dead palm trees.

Here is a pic of an Ocelot. I am surprised no school in the Valley has named their mascot after the Ocelot.

Yup and I got a good story about them. When I was active duty in the Coast Guard at South Padre Island I was on a Rover Beach Patrol team after 9/11. Me and 2 others were at the mouth of the Rio Grande about 1 mile inland on patrol one day and decided to go into an old abandoned pump house about 25 yards from the river to have a look. When we walked in, out of the corner of my eye, I saw one of the walls move like a wave went through it, then I felt a sting on my hand. It turns out the wall was a wall of killer bees. They sent out 3 bees, one for each of us, and gave us each a sting as a warning. We have never run as fast as we did that day to get back to our truck. The entire time I was running I was thinking if all those bees attack us I am jumping in the river. I got stung on my hand and my arm swole up from my hand to my elbow. Got 3 days off work for it though.:D
