If Sweetwater was in any district in Reg. IV....would they be relevant in anything other than MAYBE football?

How would they stack up against Bellville or Giddings in Baseball?

How would they stack up against Needville in Softball?

How would they stack up against Cuero, Bellville, Sealy, Giddings, Rio Hondo, etc. in football?

How would they stack up against Sweeny, Stafford, or West Oso in basketball?

How would they stack up against Cuero in track?

Everyone knows region IV is small, slow, etc. That would translate across the board in EVERY sport right? Not just football?? If the stereotypes are true....wouldn't a lack of speed and size effect more than just football? Right? So it's OBVIOUS that "South Texas"and/or Reg. IV teams just don't stack up to the FAR superior teams in the other regions....in ANY sport. :D :D :p :p ;)

Are you saying that for their High School Graduation exit exam, players might flunk a "square peg round hole" type of test as seen in this photo from a former Sweetwater valedictorian?

 They would get owned in football too.

That whole 2-3A is WAY overrated. They had a 3-7 team in the top 5 for crying out loud.

None of them stand a chance, even in the valley (That's for pancho.)

Abilene Wylie would be the school of envy down there! They only respectable team we could play down there would be Port Isabel(I know they have been down lately)! And we would win the Reg 4 title in every sport. In academics we would rule!

Wylie High among state's top schools with national award
Wylie High School ranks, based on student performance, among the state's top schools.
It has been named one of four Texas public high schools to receive the U.S. Department of Education's esteemed No Child Left Behind "Blue Ribbon Schools" award.

Of about 8,100 Texas public schools at all levels, 26 are being recognized.

In all, 320 public and private schools are receiving the honor nationwide, U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings announced Tuesday.

MAYBE football? Are you kidding. Look at our body of over the past
30 years. Being in Region IV would be like Celina is now. We
wouldn't play anybody until we ran into Cuero deep in the playoffs.:D

Baseball? We beat the defending state champs this past season.
If that doesn't scare you Region IV folks I don't what will.

Okay I'll give you softball....for now anyway. I'm sure we wouldn't
fair very well in any region.:(

I already explained football....

Basketball? You would see a resurgence in both boys and girls
programs. We would dominate simply because all of our 5'8" players
would tower over ya'lls players like Yao Ming over Earl
Boykins.:D

Track? Cuero? Puh-leeze. We would just adopt Wylie's strategy and
force 60 kids to be on the track team so that we could out score them
one point at a time.:evillol:

At LEAST 3 of the teams in D26 ALONE would donkeystomp your basketball team......Sweetwater football.....MAYBE a upper-middle of the pack team in Reg. IV.....Sweetwater baseball....get in line...BEHIND the likes of Sinton, Bellville, Giddings, Robstown, Needville, Wharton, etc. etc. etc. (since we're talking about "season before last" kinda stuff.....Softball...even YOU admit to that....Sweetwater track....if you say so man, LOL.

;) Without looking at any stats or googling anything...off the top of my head....

Football: Sinton has played in a title game...Ingleside has played in two I believe, Aransas Pass I believe has also played in one or two...

Basketball: Aransas Pass, Ingleside, West Oso and Sinton have all played in the state tourney if I'm not mistaken...

Baseball: Sinton has played for a state title more than once, Fal, Robstown and AP I am actually not sure about...

Softball: Sinton is good but in recent years can't get past Needville...this year they can say they were knocked off by the state champs...and gave them a good game to boot, not sure if there are any titles.

Golf: I know Ingleside has had a handful of state qualifiers over the years. Not sure about any of the other schools.

Track: Again...over the years the area has seen several state qualifiers in both boys and girls track.

I'd say historically the district has it covered. ;)

JUST SINTON:

Football: 1 state appearence, 3 or 4 region titles
Basketball: 2 appearences, 1 state title
Baseball: 7 appearences, 3 state titles
Softball: 2 appearences, 0 state titles :( and this was the first year we've played Needville at the HS level. This particular group of seniors lost to Needville in LL.
Golf: Sinton has qualified 2 different boys for state
Tennis: Sinton has qualified 1 girl (2007 & 2009)
Track: 2002 4x400 team won the silver; 2008 Boys High Jump Champ and back in the 90s had some state champs
Volleyball: no state appearences, but always in the mix and have not been able to get over the hump at Regionals

In the last four years Sweetwater has had...

A boy win the SC in the 100 meters. He did so his senior year by
beating his nemesis Shawnbry McNeil finally.

A girl win the SC in golf

A boy win the SC in the 220 and 330 meter hurdles.

and most recently a girl win the SC in the 300(?) meter hurdles.

Sweetwater has recently struggled in basketball. They have had some teams qualify for the regional tourneys, and the boys even made it to state in 1997.

Baseball and softball is another story. Sweetwater made the playoffs in baseball 1 or 2 years during the Carrillo years.

Sweetwater has had numerous track individual winners, as well as a second place finish in Austin a couple of years ago.

Sweetwater would compete just fine in Region 4. So much of your success in football depends on where you get placed in the bracket for football. Some teams might be 8-2 and finish second in a tough district, and run into a 10-0 team in round one. Sweetwater has been fortunate some years to get to play some West Texas teams that weren't traditionally very strong. Other years, Sweetwater has gone up against teams like Bridgeport, Decatur, and Graham in round one. Either way, Sweetwater has been very successful in the playoffs. I would bet they are one of the few teams statewide to not lose in the first round of the playoffs since the playoff streak started in 2000.

Someone posted earlier all the success of their district statewide. I am too lazy to research it all, but district 2-3A has been well represented state wide.

Since 2000 off the top of my head -

Wylie - numerous state tennis championships, state basketball appearances, state baseball appearances, state football championship and state championship appearances.

Sweetwater - Several trips 4 rounds deep in the football playoffs, including one trip to the semi's (loss to state champion Tatum). Track runner up at Austin. Boys golf team championship. Several individual and team championships in golf and track.

Snyder - Rogers has built a great football program in Snyder, one trip to the semi's (loss to state champion Gilmer). Several other deep football playoff runs. State baseball championship last year. Several team girls state golf championships.

Graham - Won a couple of playoff games in football two years ago. Would have been a playoff team last year in 50% of the districts in the state.

Brownwood - New to 3A, but has several deep playoff runs the last few years in 4A. Great run in baseball this year, and was a basketball playoff teams. Believe their softball was pretty dang good too.

Breckenridge - Well every district has to have one whipping boy. Brownwood and Wylie both have more than double the enrollment Wylie has. Tough for the little guy to compete in this district.

Very successful district. I think many of these teams would have similar success in any other region in the state.
