The Longest Day
In Harm's Way
Sands of Iwo Jima
They Were Expendable...just to name a few

Favorite War Movie (not staring the Duke):

Saving Private Ryan {realism and emotion were great except for the second to last scene where Hanks dies: no airborne guy would have said "Earn this!" (or whatever he said)}.

The greatest war movie ever wasn't really a war movie (HBO mini): Band of Brothers. Dick Winters may be the greatest living American!!!

"Grandpa, were you a hero?" "No but I served in a company of heros."

i enjoyed we were soldiers. of course i cant watch it now...too graphic, as are most all of the other military/war themed movies. and fwiw, i would/could/can/do categorize forest gump into this category, however it fits into so many others like drama, comedy, action, quinten terintino...the list kinda goes on and on.

Actually My Granddad was airborne in WWII and one of their running comments when someone saved or helped another soldier was you better do something great in life since I put my life on the line for you. So him saying earn this is basically the same theme.

Some movies force you to like them though like Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down and We Were Soldiers.

One of my favorite of all time was Braveheart, despite the Battle of Stirling not going down as shown, it was barbaric! LOL :)

Have you seen "Iron Triangle" with Don Johnson? I'm curious as to how many of y'all have. It's based on the diary of a "Viet-Cong" soldier. Really interesting stuff.
