Game summary from NB blog:

7th inning — Senior Meagan McKinney recorded all three outs in the seventh inning — grounders to shortstop — as Canyon wins its first 4A state championship with a 4-2 win over Angleton.

Mandy Ogle went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI to earn MVP honors.

6th inning — Canyon is just three outs away from their first state championship. Gomez reached on a bunt single for the only hit for Canyon.

Angleton had two singles in the inning, but Stephanie Peace made a pair of nice catches to help her case for an MVP award. We're headed to the seventh and what could be celebration time for the Cougarettes.

Canyon 4, Angleton 2

5th inning — After the exciting fourth inning, the fifth was somewhat lackluster. Both teams had a pair of base hits, but couldn't bring them home. Canyon's Stephanie Peace made a great defensive play in center to throw a runner out at third to save a run.

Canyon 4, Angleton 2

4th inning — The Cougarette bats came to life in the fourth. A pair of errors by Angleton and a bunt single by Sarah Crockett loaded the bases. After a fielder's choice at home led to the first out, Brittany Gomez' infield single plated a run and Ogle's blast into center scored a pair, coupled with Wall's bunt single to give Canyon four runs in the inning.

A miscue by the Canyon infield came back to bite them, as Galloway's shot into center with a pair on base drove in Jessie Reyes from second. It was Reyes grounder that gave the Cougarette infield trouble in what would've been the second out of the inning, but she reached first and kept the inning alive for the Lady Cats.

Canyon 4, Angleton 2

3rd inning — Angleton shortstop Gabby Banda's double into left scored Hayley Galloway from second for the first run of the game. Galloway reached on a rare fielding error by the Cougarettes.

Canyon had the bases loaded in the home half of the third. Mireles hit a shot off Angleton pitcher Madisyn Ward, Mandy Ogle hit a single into left and Stephanie Peace was hit by a pitch, but McKinney hit a shallow pop-up to end the inning.

Angleton 1, Canyon 0

2nd inning — Canyon got its first hit of the game — a base hit down the left field line by Aby Kester — but a failed bunt attempt and a pop-up double play to first ended the Cougarettes chances.

Mireles forced a pair of groundouts and struck out her second batter to sit down Angelton in order.

Angleton 0, Canyon 0

1st inning — Canyon's Becca Wall reached on a walk and advanced to 2B on a wild pitch before Meagan McKinney grounded out to end the inning.

Sara Mireles allowed a walk to infielder Hayley Galloway and Kim Damian followed with a single into left to advance Galloway to third, but Becca Wall made a heads-up throw to second to pick off Damian. Mireles proceeded to record her first strikeout of the game to end the inning.
