West vs. Brownwood

I decided to give this game it's on thread. It appears Brownwood will be able to pitch Shelby Miller in this game. I'm not sure who West will pitch, but we do have a few good pitchers. West was 2nd out of 7-3A behind Glen Rose. We do have some good hitters, but our team is very young. Who takes it?

In a one game series, I'll take Brownwood against just about anyone in the state. I was a bit surprised they handled Lubbock Cooper so easily.

On a side note, Lubbock Cooper has to be hating Brownwood this year. We have knocked them out of the playoffs in Basketball, Baseball and Softball .. alll in this school year

I know nothing about West but I know plenty about Shelby Miller and the Brownwood Lions. With him pitching and the bats getting hot at the right time, I will take Brownwood hands down.

Watched Shelby pitch Saturday. He never came close to being pushed, probably threw around 90, he had a lot more in his arm, that he never showed. He coasted the entire game.
In the 6th he allowed a hit, then gave up a walk. Coach came out for a visit. 7 pitches 6 strikes later, Brownwood was batting.

The radio said he threw 95mph several times. With Shelby, he usually gets faster as the game goes on, and he is absolutely at his best when he gets in a little jam.

I dont know the exact date but it was one of the first few he pitched this season. That is when about half the team was still playing basketball.

Believe me, it's tough supporting the Lions in a town like this. Wouldn't go as far to say that I'm a Stephenville "fan"... I'll cheer them on, as long as they're not playing Brownwood. I am not sure how it transpired, but with the way Graylon pitched against Lubbock Cooper and the way the defense has been playing I think Brownwood would do well in a 3 game series as well.

Im wondering if Gordon Wood is rolling around in his grave. Brownwood drops to 3a and cant piss a drop in football. Now, not only does the Wood have baseball, but they are being highly successful in it. What a shame.

We had a down year last year. I don't believe anyone from Brownwood would deny that. Believe me when I say this Brownwood will be back and as strong as ever real soon.

I second that 95mustang. Brown is a gifted athlete especially as a soph. I did hear from a Glen Rose friend that West has a solid ball club. They faced them a couple of times this year in district. Said they hit hard and have a good pitching crew. It'll be a competitive game to say the least. I look for Miller to have another stellar performance against another solid team.

West played a lot of 4A and 5A schools in non-district. West lost right out of the box to a solid Rockdale squad. They also came in 2nd in a 5A tournament, and in that tournament they beat a 6A school from Oklahoma. They also nearly beat Carthage, who is a top ranked team. From what I have heard, it came down to 3 coin flips. Brownwood won the toss for 1 game and location, and West won the toss for home team. West is a very young team, but they can play some ball.

The information you gave about the upcoming game is incorrect. Brownwood did win the flip for the one game series. The location was agreed upon, and West will be the visiting team.

I have stated on here about them being a young team because they are exactly that-young. 14 kids on the roster and 8 of them being either freshmen or sophomores. How is that being cocky?

I saw him him pitch against Liberty Hill,pitched great till the 6th inning,he still won the game but game up a few runs in the 6th

I'm just getting in after a very long day, but I was at the game as well and was very impressed with Miller. The kid has got a heck of an arm. Still, a very good game by both teams. I hate to see the Trojans season end like this, but still it was one heck of a season and nothing to be ashamed of. Good luck the rest of the way Brownwood.

It was an enjoyable game to watch and a big win for the Lions on Sat. Shelby had a great game all the way around. He sure helped his own cause by hitting that HR.

I was very impressed with West. They have a really good team and both pitchers were very impressive.
