FYI - the following is an article from today's San Antonio Express-News about the Marion ace that Needville will be facing on Tuesday night...Marion is a small town located about halfway between San Antonio and Seguin...

There's a board at Marion's baseball field that lists all its state championships, regional championships, everything down to its playoff appearances.

Unfortunately for Bulldogs fans, that board has a lot of blank space.

Jordan Littlefield is here to change that.

Marion, which has advanced past the second round only once in school history, is placing plenty of hope in Littlefield's right arm this season.

The Bulldogs have won four consecutive district championships, but the only time Marion advanced past the second round was its regional semifinalist team in 1993.

“(The second round) has always been that wall for us,” Littlefield said. “We think we can be the team that gets past that wall. There's pressure, but there's always pressure when you have the chance to go to state.”

Marion (17-6) will face Needville at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Victoria in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs with Littlefield likely to be on the mound.

Littlefield, a three-year letterman in football and baseball, is 6-1 this season and is hitting .641 with eight home runs.

His career stats are staggering: 25-3 record with a 1.39 ERA and a .469 batting average.

“It's no shock that Jordan's the catalyst behind everything we do,” Marion coach Jason Fox said.

Littlefield was also the catalyst as Marion's quarterback, helping the Bulldogs bounce back for a 6-4 season after going 1-9 in 2007.

He set the school passing record, throwing for 1,843 yards and 18 TDs. The previous record-holder was fine with losing his mark. He's Jordan's father, Brian Littlefield, a 1988 Marion graduate.

The Littlefield name runs deep in Marion sports. Jordan's grandfather Roger starred for Marion in the 1960s and a great uncle Donny was the man in the 1970s.

Jordan's family members also make up a large portion of the Bulldogs' fan base, taking up the bleachers next to the Marion dugout in an area Fox calls “the Littlefield section.”

“We've had a good run in Marion,” Brian Littlefield said. “Who knows, there might be another generation in a few decades.”

But there's still more for the current generation to accomplish before Littlefield, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound right-hander, moves on to college baseball. He has signed with Incarnate Word and likely will play in the infield.

For Littlefield, the records and numbers are nice, but he's more concerned with the legacy his team leaves.

After all, there's plenty of room on a board at Marion's baseball field to write in the 2009 team.

“We've never had much of a winning tradition at Marion in the playoffs,” Littlefield said. “I know we'll fix that. I feel like something big's about to happen.”
