1st and foremost - Please DO NOT turn this into a UT bashing thread - ok now that I have that out of the way.. :D

Lil44's girlfriend made cheerleader at UT for this coming season (she'll be a freshman).. She has 8 pages of questions to study, etc., and she knows the majority of the answers but there are a couple that she's unsure of.. I just know someone on here can help with the answers..... (this isn't her test - it's a study guide so she wants to make sure what she's studying with the correct answers lol) :)

1) How many national championships (football) does UT have?
2) How many conference championships (football) does UT have?
Thanks ;)

UT has 47 National Championships. One that isn't recognized by them is the Women's College Beach Volleyball Natinal Championship they won last year.

4 national championships (UPI had them champions before the Cotton Bowl loss to the Irish in 1970) and I counted 24 conference championships. But I may have mis-counted:D

number 1 is a trick question..you can say they have a certain amount but some ppl might not recognize...it depends what pools you look at bc back in the 70's there were like 6 teams that claimed they won a NC

Check UT's athletic web site I'll bet the info you want is there.

Sorry I was misreading what was asked and the 47 I mentioned is all championships. The Number of football National Championships recognized by UT is four for 1963, 69, 70 and 05. We don't pull a USC or others that claim more than they really have.

Below is a link that may help. From it the 4 National Champions are confirmed and there are 29 Conference Champions. 2 from the TIAA in 1913 and 1914. I don't know how long they were in the TIAA Conference or even what TIAA stands for. I think it preceded the SWC Championship that UT joined in 1915. From 1915 to 1995 UT was in the SWC and won 25 championships with 21 outright and 4 of them co-championships and in fact in 1959 three teams shared the title. UT joined the Big 12 in 1996 and has won two titles since then. So the magic number in conference championships is probably 29.

UT would have had an argument for 1918 but since it was a war year the SWC didn't award a championship because all the teams couldn't play each other.
